When I tap F12 on my older BIOS I see hard disk as number one then cd/dvd 2nd etc.
    When I tap F2 I see cd/dvd 1st and hard disk as 2nd.
This seems like a contradiction. Why is it different and should I make any changes?

Does F2 access the BIOS? The BIOS shows the boot order of all installed devices that can be booted from. Leave this setting as is.
F12 just gives you the option to select a boot device. It's convenient when you need to boot from a memory stick/flash drive.

One is the setting and the other is just a set of choices.
    Thank you for the clarification.
