Unlike my usual jabbering I'll (try to--"Try? Try not. Do, or do not... there is no try" Who said that?)keep this terse. Last night I posted (tried to post) a problem I'm having. It had to do (may the Captain help us all) with *this* very software itself...i.e. the "Major Geek" site. I'll not go into that problem because *it* became a problem itself, to wit:

When I was ready to post I got a msg...one which unfortunately I did not copy or jot down. But it was in the nature of "You can't post 'cause your not logged in." Well, I was logged in (lest how could I begin 2 post?) But I then went & logged in, came back and posted. *Then* I got a msg that I'd posted the same thing in the last 5 minutes -- uhh...huh? So I suppose my wordiness or whatever timed me out or I did something wrong, I know not what. I looked & saw that I did indeed have two msgs on the Support forum.

I'll go not much farther here. One big problem is I'm not a Geek (used, of course, with all due respect to all you helpful people to whom I owe many thanks just 4 being out there to help.)

I would delete the doppleganger (dual) post *if* I knew how knowing it is gravely frowned upon.
So, I leave it there so's *not* to blather on. Ideas on what happened (it has happened b4 but I *think* I've not double posted 'til last night.

    All comments, ideas, etc. appreciated.
Oh, BTW, this post I'm writing off line so I can cut & paste it & git outta Dodge B4 they gun me down.
    Tanx again,
    Staghart Ok I'm outta here

    No that isn't correct.
One thing, if you have a solution, feel free to add to the thread, even if it is old. However, if you have a problem you want help on, please start here
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21
and click the New Thread button at the top or bottom left.
The Major doesn't want you to add your problem unto a thread that someone else started - this would be called hijacking.

I believe that what you saw was 50 posts needed to PM someone, not to post in a thread or starting your own. Only place you can't add a post is to someone else's thread in the malware forum though you can make a new thread in there if you have malware.

what if they need useful information i have. i don't want to post a whole thread about one sentence just sending them a message or commenting on there thread would be perfect. is there no way to simply talk to them? :confused

If it is in the malware forum, then only qualified people are able to give advice, it is safer that way.

If it is in any other forum just post in the thread instead of through a PM, it is better that way :)

So how will they know about the thread unless they are still looking for the answer I guess. not like I can tell them to go to my thread and take a look. you guys answered my question. that's all I want to do to his. obviously you cant just change my account to make it possible to just tell him. but a PM would be magnificent. Since I have no choice I'll post a thread...odious and thanks :wave
