Well first off fight "fire" with "fire" isnt what we call HELP here. 2ndly if your being foolish enough to open emails and or links that infect your computer with trojans/virus that is seriously YOUR fault be it wrong or right. Im sure your not the only victem in this story. Best off stay out of Yahoo chats and find somthing more significan't like...aol or somthing

    btw wrong thread section.

download a freeware firewall; remove trojans off your pc; download a better freeware antivirus; etc... im telling you that your not gonna get 'that' type of help around here regardless.

Ok, guys, you are really not being helpful at all. Skip the "dont use it" and "go to their house", calling people foolish bs and be helpful or simply dont. This is the sort of attitude that scares people away. You make ALL of us look like asses with your responses. I do not want to see the condesending attitude again. It really pisses me off to see new members get talked to like this. In this case, we had an email converstaion during this and I got the impression they got stupid answers and were not coming back. If you can not answer the question properly, shut up.

    Heres an example response:

A good firewall will mask your ip and block access that can otherwise be easily exploited.

Ditto to a good anti-virus program like Avast.

Finally, I do not use Yahoo chat, but typically all channels have moderators. If they boot you out, theres nothing you can do within reason. Getting booted or ban usually ties into a username and\or ip address. Frankly, I avoid a lot of these sort of chats because if they give out your ip, it makes it easy for amatuer hackers to get at your machine. These type of people are scarier then an average hacker as you dont know what they will do on your machine.

I would study up on yahoo's chat program. If there is a security flaw in it that allows someone to gain control over your computer in someway, HIGHLY DOUBTFUL, then That flaw will be posted around all over the internet. I recommend google. Second, most likely, if there isnt a flaw like this where they are either able to exe files remotely through your yahoo chat, then you ARE clicking on something. Please swallow the pride, and accept this. If you click a web link, you could easily be going to a site that has a java script/trojan type site. I would recommend you also adjust your internet security features and disable jscript or java script. While this can be GREAT, currently, its being used maliciously. VX2 and others. Ive experienced spyware to great ends, and it usually takes me about 30 minutes to fully remove it. Going through registry, and deleting the dll's or other files that may be installed, which usually requires me to be in dos ;(... Anyways, You are clicking something to get them.

But back on topic, I havent used yahoos chat personally, but there may be some security flaws or buffer exploits in it. I Would do research and definitely update to the latest version. That will sometimes make everything better.

If both parties are using Yahoo! Messenger, then it is possible, since sometimes, Messenger will establish a direct connection between the clients. As far as I remember, for this to happen, though, both users need to be on each other's Buddy List.

As far as I know, Messenger is the only Yahoo! client to do this.

Why doesn't everyone just forget about booting a person in Yahoo chat and just fine the lady a program so no one will boot her. And there are ways around Y tunnel, you still can be booted with it. I know there are Anti Boot programs out there, just which ones are safe to use.
I use Yahoo messenger alot, the guys use to get booted but now all the ladys get booted. Me thinks if they dont get or hear what they want,,,they boot the lady, which is not right at all,,,,,,,,Chat use to be fun before the booting and Yahoo knows all about it and doesnt even try to stop it.
    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

AS fas as malware being loaded, Norton Anti-Virus 2005 includes IM protection for MS, Yahoo and AIM.
I use GAIM or Trillian free for the simple fact that not all my friends have the same service and there does not seem to be widely available hacks for them.

    Ok, this is becoming stupid.

This person would not be well off to go and download virus infested script kiddie programs to protect themselves.

My suggestions: get a decent firewall, get a decent AV, make sure they're up to date. Make sure Yahoo messenger is up to date (i assume you're using that to chat).

If you keep getting booted from a particular channel, then don't go to it any more. Or report to the owner of that channel who is doing the booting, and they can get banned.
