Booting Issue Turning On PC

Hi Every One

I would like someone to Help me with one of my PC. I have a COMPAQ 5000
S/N # 9148BBXZN691 Model #5SPXE COMPAQ TM.

When I turn on the PC sometimes do this that I do not know what it is??

Starts like any other PC checking Devices and recognized all of them, but when it comes to the screen where it says COMPAQ stays freeze. At that moment sometimes I press F10 to get into the SETUP but the menu for the SETUP you will see it at the screen but not correctly it comes a black screen with letters at the bottom with the word SET that is the only you can see. After a while waiting comes the SETUP menu. Then I looked to see if everything is correct and save it. and will start the reboot again. And continue the same. I see COMPAQ screen and does not do anything else. I never go to Windows XP Screen.

What I did was move memory, clean up PC inside, take out and put again the battery, I put another battery from another PC that I had but the issue continues. What I notice was that the Battery is like a little be loose. So I think I am not sure that this could be the issue. But I am not 100% sure.

Sometimes I go all the way into windows XP. But it is sometimes. And it is annoyance and I would like to fix it. Because it is not right.

Would you please give me some help.

I too was having similar issues on my Compaq. It would not boot without a system disc. I installed a new hard drive, symantec, XP and updated everything. I then tried to install the old HD so I can transfer data but the computer won't boot. Several setups ie. Master/Slave, Slave/Master, both cable select and no jumpers at all and it still won't boot. All I want to do is get the data on to the new drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

You are saying that I have to change the HD. What about if I re-format the hardDrive. Don' t you think that it is something to do with the Hardware. Because it never goes to XP Operating System.
