booting issues and windows dvd won't load??

Hi All, I'm having a torrid time with booting my PC

I have a 120gb solid state drive and 250 and 500 gb spinners for storage - win7 64bit

Yesterday my pc decided not to boot (just a blank screen with a flashing cursor, nothing in the usb's) so I unplugged everythin except my solid drive and as long as i pressed f10 at beginning of boot process I could force pc to boot. As soon as I plug the 250gb spinner it won't boot at all, and just hangs

I can't figure anything out here and whats making this a nightmare gone wrong, when I try to boot from dvd for norton boot disc or windows repair, whichever of the 2 optical drives i use, it takes a very long time to load and then doesn't opperate, leaving me with no options

anyone have any suggestions before I start taking things apart?
