    ok, so i want to skip the "boot" selection.

    my windows xp professional doesn't work...i don't even know why it's there.

    so

    my original boot.ini file is

    [boot loader]
    timeout=3
    default=signature(ea109de4)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    signature(ea109de4)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    but i want it to load the xp instead

    would i change default to

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows

    or would i do something else.

    you want to load XP Media Center Edition, correct? If so, it wont hurt to delete the line "signature(ea109de4)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect"

    If that line is a working partition, you may want to save that string in a text file somewhere in case you would like to have it back in the boot.ini file in the future
