I have posted this question before, with no resolution. I have used Bootvis, with SP2 and XP. Now for some reason, I cant get the program to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled from different sites...no joy. I either keep getting a message Perfvis needs to shut down, or else, Bootvis will run and trace, but there is no spike to tell you actual boot time.
I have been reading threads from others having problems with Bootvis also, although their difficulties are different to mine..the common denominator is the program WILL NOT WORK.
Is it possible that MS has interfered (for want of a better word) with this program.

    Hi

Bootvis was never ment to be a public application it was for OEMs to get the boot time correct on those PCs, MSFT did release it to general public on technet (iirc) but it was a work in progress and never supported, it was later removed from the MSFT servers and not available via MSFT as it caused more issues that enough due to users not using it correctly.

Could check that the scheduler service in services is started and running as bootvis relies on it.

Personally all you need to do is make sure your startup list is minimal and make sure prefetch is active and not disabled if you tweaked your PC, and defrag, the prefetch routine in XP is baiscally what Bootvis did anyhow, monitor what apps are bsing used and more so and moving them around for quick access.

But as you say a new update could have rendered BootVis to not work on some PCs, if I get chance and bootup my old XP PC I will try Bootvis again but the XP thats installed on it is XP SP3.
