I hope this is in the right forum, being its not computer related..

Ok, So I bought these Bose Champion 3 Series 2 Speakers about 3months ago I'd say, and they have been great, I love the sound of them. Now would I pay this much for speakers again? No. Thats why I bought they from CompUSA before they closed (189$$ ) Now, my problem is, they buzz.


Yes they make this wonderful buzzing noise all the time. I thought I could deal with it...but I can't. I emailed Bose on March 28 about the problem, and have yet to receive an email. I want to take these back and exchange them for a different pair, but like I said...CompUSA has closed shop. Now I'm stuck with these things.

Now my question. What do you guys think I can do with these? I thought about taking 250 out of the bank and going to Best buy and pulling the old switch a-roo and then getting my money back. What would you do?

 

I used to own a set of buzzing speakers. - Although they still worked, after peeking inside, I discovered some tears in the cone material of the left speaker. After consulting a friend, he sugested a dab of silicone rubber cement, thinly layered over the tears. It actually worked. In fact I had forgotten all about it until you reminded me.

 

That sucks, they should still honor their sales. Take a look here, there's a 800, number it even says they are opening new stores. If you can locate a corporate office and write, keeping a copy, asking for satisfaction I have found gets action where nothing else does.

That could work, but I don;t think I want to open these up, incase it voids the warranty. Then I'm f'd. If I had nothing to lose, I'd already have them open LOL.

Yeah I should look into that. I just dont want to drive half way across the US to exchange them. I just wish that they worked like they should. I guess this is a known problem with them... Too bad I didn't know it before hand!

 

You shouldn't have to hand deliver them, shipping will work if they are agreeable.
I just hate it when you get the short end of the stick, this is why older people are so bitchy, after decades of going through stuff like this your ready for a fight.

I never realized how bad and flat they sounded. lol

 

How are the speakers hooked up and what is the source for the audio? My 5.1 system buzzed when I first got it at a reasonable volume, but it went away when I redid my wiring and bought a new receiver. My old receiver was junk and my wiring was all small speaker wire that was spliced up everywhere. I went with a heavier gage and its a straight shot to each speaker. Helped a bunch! Good luck!

 

Another cause of buzzing is RF(radio frequency) interference.
It can be caused by flourescent lights, your speaker wires being close to a power cord or phone line or even a device like a iPod,cell phone or Blackberry.
Try moving the speakers and the wires around to see if it affects the buzz.
A professional would use an RF detector to pinpoint the source.

 

8Ball - you should probably be more patient with emailing Bose. You emailed them Friday (didn't state a time mind you, which can have an effect) and have only waiting until Sunday evening! Chances are there won't be anyone around on the weekend to reply to you!

Give it at least a week before receiving a reply.

It is the stock wiring that came with the speakers. So I don't think that that has anything to do with it. Plus it's all built into the speakers, no way to remove or alter. Well at least with my lack knowledge lol. Don't want to damage them.

I have tried to move them around my room to see if there is any difference. None that I could tell. I'll try a different room completely as soon as I can, maybe there will be a difference.

I know I need to be patient (I emailed them at about 3pm or so Friday night). I'll give them a bit more time to respond.

Now, I have just thought of something. In my room is the breaker box (actually right above my computer screen!) could that have something to do with it? also have my tv and dell laser printer next to where the sub was at.

So did some test.

On a scale of 1 being no noise 10 a lot of noise.

In my room the noise was I'd say a 5.5/10

and Kitchen 2/10 (in fact I could only hear it when I had my ear next to them!)

Basement 3.5/10

interesting. Is there anything I can put around the speaker wire to "block" the interference? Its interesting, the noise seems to responded to the levels on my house. We have a four floor house; middle level has kitchen and living room, top has mom and brothers rooms, mine has just my room, then bottom is finished basement.

 

Your local electronics store should carry products such as ferrite beads or RF interference chokers that help block RF interference

I work for Home Depot and we don't carry them. Try BestBuy, CircuitCity, Radioshack, etc.

I have received word from Bose. They said that they can fix my unit for free, I just have to pay Shipping and Handling. They said it would take 10-15 business days for me to receive my new unit.

I dont know if I have a good ground, as its five wires: two speakers, one power, one computer input, one to the volume thing. Nice set up, I bet it rocks lol.

I'll do that! Funny thing is, it doesn't bother my friends, they say they can barely hear it. Ha.

 

buzzing speakers annoy me.

It's usually not the speaker, it's usually the amp or wiring issues.

What kind of amp do you have? Really good speakers bring out the flaws in sub par amps.
It may also be an ohmage issue. What impedance are the Bose speakers, and is your amp rated to that level as well?

and a guy spends lots and lots of money, and holds his system off the floor with a wood plank and some concret blocks. At least lift the speaker off the floor by 12inchs it will help...wobbles
