I'm a beginner with computers. Can someone tell me of a good software spy detector that will tell me if my boyfriend is spying on our home computer. Thanks much from someone who has nothing to hide but wants a little privacy! Cheers

Do you have a password on your e-mail account, dont check the box remember my password, you will have to fill it in each time but if he doesnt know your password he cant check your mail
Thats the basic stuff, or do you want to record all his activity secretly and see if hes been prying ;)

Point taken, i was just going for the obvious that she probably had it set to auto sign in and he was just walking straight in there

Ok is your partner very computer savvy?

No, I don't wanna spy on him. My bro told me that he may be able to get my password from keystrokes, something like that. Like I said I'm a beginner geek, still learning about the basics. So what your telling me is that he could never access my email unless I save the password?? And is there anything that I could see if he is tracking my info?

that is partially correct, but the semantics of it need to further defined.

Accessing your email account on the server requires authentication. If you don't save your password, then in order for you to download your email to your INBOX, you'll need to provide your password. Any email already downloaded to your mailbox will be accessible regardless.

He definitely knows alot more than I. Our computer is also networked to his office.

If he's already using a keystroke logger, he already has your passwords for your accounts.

since its windows 2000, do you have seperate logins or do you both use the same?

Side note here - if you suspect him of secretly, or not so secretly, tracking your computer usage to see what you may be doing 'wrong', maybe you should consider what else he may be checking up on you with.

    OH! thanks Kodo

Well I guess I will not have privacy unless I have my own comp. Thanks

one possible way to curb him reading your emails would be to get an online based only email account.. Operamail springs to mind, you read them online and they are not downloaded to your PC.

We have sep. logins. hmmm what are you reffering to see what I may be doing 'wrong'. I am a good girl just wanting privacy. I don't like spies. If he wants to know something - ask!

if you eventually take the time to make sure there are no keyloggers on your system and you're using OUTLOOK (not outlook express) you can password protect your PST file. The PST file is the file for YOUR profile that OUTLOOK uses. If you're using separate logins, then he's most likely got his own PST file.

I'm not inferring that you are actually doing anything wrong. My point was that if he's using keystroke logging to read your emails, IM's, or anything else that you type on the computer, is it possible that there are other aspects of your life he may be spying upon? If so, take precautions for your own privacy and safety.
