OK I have just purchased a Gateway lx 6810 I have installed KIS 2009, I also installed a router and printer. Is there any thing else I should do in case some thing happens down the road? There were no recovery disk with this machine. Is there a place on this forum to help someone with a new PC?

    Welcome to Major Geeks.
Suggest installing antispyware if you haven't already.
    My favorites are
    SuperAntiSpyware
    MalwareBytes
    SpywareBlaster
    SpywareGuard
    WinPatrol
Also a good Firewall( mine is Comodo)

Not sure about KIS2009 since not installed on my machine.
Don't have Windows Defender either. My own choices keep me pretty well covered.

Since no recovery disks came with the computer, is there a partition on the hd that holds all the install information? Check your manual or if not there check with tech support to see if there is a way to create restore CDs or DVDs. If your hd dies, there has to be a way to recover your computer and it is best to find out from Gateway as soon as possible what to do in that situation.

You should back it up, preferably to an external hard drive, or another external source. Windows 7 has a backup program that is easy to use, and it worked well for me, one of the first things I did after installing, Never had a system with Vista on it. XP also has its own backup program, while it isn't perfect it is much better than not having one. Used the Windows 7 backup once already without a problem. Some comps have a backup on a separate partition, but if the hard drive goes you get stiffed. Save one or more backups externally. Even with an Operating System Disk from Windows you are limited to the times you can use it in a given time period.
