I just bought an HP Paviolion DV9000T laptop, and it arrived about two weeks ago. Today was the first time I tried watching a movie on it unplugged. It didn't even make it through the whole movie! It's a 8-cell lithium battery. It's been plugged in and charging for 2 weeks. These things should last longer than 2 hours right?!!!

What is the average time you can be unplugged iwth an 8-cell lithium batter?

Should I insist they exchange the battery?

Is there anything I could have done to cause this? The only thing I can think of is I walked around a couple of times while it was running and that made the sound slow down or the movie freeze up (I was watching a movie on Google videos). Other than that, I charged it according to the directions.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry for such elementary questions. I got to talk to DH and one other person and they said it's not all that unusual on a laptop. Glad I checked around before calling HP and sounding like an idiot. Guess I'll be buying an auto charger and an extra battery.

Well, when you're watching a DVD, you're running the processor full-on, the screen full on, and the DVD drive motor constantly on. Bound to take a toll on the battery.

That would be typical for a HP laptop. If you where expecting 6 hours or more, you really need the add-on unit that Targus makes.
