Breaking .pdf Security

I'm looking for software or a way to break the encription for the .pdf files I have.
I've tried A-pdf and it's not working.

I bought these NFPA standards from the ANSI site and would like to view them on my iPad as well as my laptop. When I move them to my iPad, the pages are just blank. My only recourse is to print and scan these, some are over 900 pages. I really don't want to cut down a forest just to look at these.
