bright dot on wallpaper only

I've got a bright dot that appears on the wallpaper background only in the upper left corner of the screen. It isn't there any other time, and it can be covered up by anything that isn't white that you overlay it with. My computer is a 3 day old ASUS C70 SA x2 with Intel duo-core 2.5 Mhz and 3 megs RAM.

I tried system restore and thought it was gone, but when I clicked on the OK to the box that says "System has been successfully restored", it appeared instantly. Also, when you do a restart, you can see that it is off, but as you watch the programs load, it will appear. It is about 2-3mm in size. Too large for a pixel. It is just slightly larger than the inside of the P's and B's in my icon names. I have a WUXGA screen.

    Any ideas?

    Hi

Could you post a screenshot of that part of the screen?

First thoughs are that the backlight to the LCD is a bit bright in that area. Have you changed the wallpaper to a different one and is bright spot still there?

As the Laptop is new I would be contacting the manufacturers to get their advise on this as possible is you may need replacement if this bright area is annoying.

The bright dot issue is resolved, but not without pain. It appeared on all of my wallpaper, no matter what. On the desktop, you could overlay it with and icon (you had to hold it there). The wallpapers I use are just high-res photos that I designate as wallpaper (the photos didn't have the bright dot when not used for the wallpaper).

The fix: I called ASUS service, and they wanted me to send the notebook to them. Yuk. Anyway, I used the rescue disk and completely wiped the partition, reloading Vista. STILL THERE. Then I just started eliminating programs, figuring, what the heck have I got to lose(I'm no expert!). As soon as I eliminated Adobe Flash Player it was gone. It was used for IE apparently, and since I hate IE with a passion, I haven't had another problem with that.

I STILL have problems with Firefox freezing (it did before), and it will often refuse to open multiple instances of Firefox. Any ideas? I've also had WMP freeze while playing, and start generating horrible digital noise (my laptop has extremely good speakers and subwoofer and is LOUD. I had to take the battery out and unplug it to stop it. Nothing else worked.
