Broadband speed needed?

Hello my current phoneline supports a maximum of 3.5mb connection speed.

With this in mind i was looking at changin my isp to a package with a 2mb connection - i play a few online games aswell as lots of streaming.

on a game like World of Warcraft for example would this be enough to keep my latency below 150 or so and be able to play properlly, or would i need a package at the full 3.5 that my line can handle?

one last question about speedtest.net, it tells me my download speed is 4.5mb on average but i dont see how this is possible when my phone line has a maximum of 3.5mb ?

what is your current latency to the WoW servers?

speed =/= lack of latency. Just because you have a fast connection to your ISP doesn't mean you have a fast connection to WoW. You also need to take into account your upload speed. What is the upload rate for the 2M connection? If you're moving from 768 to 512 or 384 upload, you will notice a difference in the responsiveness. It's not all about the download.

also, why are you changing? just the cost? I say keep the 3.5M connection and cut some bills somewhere. 3.5M down to 2M can't be that big of a deal cost-wise; just don't eat out as often. ;-)

note: I used those upload numbers based on the fact that you kept referencing your "phone line", which led me to believe you are using DSL. DSL typically has a slower upload than cable. You'll probably be upset with your speed if you reduce the DSL package. Just my $0.02.
