broken PCIe

    how do i know if theres a problem with my pcie socket. a technician told me it is really broken i have to change my motherboard. i hope somebody can help.

    my computer is

    AMD Athlon 64bit 3500+ 2.2 GHz
    MSI K9MGN motherboard
    1 Gig RAM

    my OS is

    windows xp service pack 2
