:banghead Alright well, it all started today i started my computer like any other day except for the fact that when it finished loading up, norton was gone, and zone alarm was as well... not gone but just not running, so i tried to start them manually and zone alarm came up but norton was having some serious issues, i finally found the source of the problem for norton, which was that my lisences or w/e had expired, considering you have to renew every year or so. So i had to uninstall norton, and i decided to get a new substitute, so i downloaded a couple of options from here, and tried to install them, they led to no success, and now whenever i try to open ANYTHING except like maxthon browser, i get a serious error, oh and niether of the two virus programs i installed work, or anything. I would show you an image of the error but considering i cannot open paint or photoshop to paste the print screen. So if i try to open something like Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel i get this error
With the window title as Control Panel. If i try to open an application such as Flash, i also get the error
but with the window title as C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\Flash.exe.

Thank you in advance, any help is greatly appreciated!

Have you tried running these programs from safe mode? I'm wondering if when you uninstalled Norton it took a shared dll with it. If you had a restore point set before you uninstalled Norton go back to that point and see if the programs run again.

:banghead I finally got safe mode to work, and nothing works in there either, NO programs work its ridiculous, i cannot start system restore, i cannot start cmd, from the run menu, i cannot do anything. In safe mode it is the same.

Soooo...I wanted to be rid of this OS, or HD competely so i went to Altex, the nearest computer store and bought a new Western Digital 250GB SATA II, for my comp, and hooked it up and tookout the old HD, threw in a windows xp home operating system cd into one of my disc drives and was wanting to install a fresh version of XP on my new HD, yet i was unable to, the computer would run off the disc and finish loading its components and then come to the press enter to continue screen, i press enter, and then it gives me a blue screen explaining that i might not have enough discspace, or something... and this puzzels me.. and i cannot do anything on the other drive yet i can run windows... but i cannot system restore, or if i run the disc while on the corrupt version of windows i cannot run the .exe on the disc as i cannot run anything on the dammed computer. so i cannot repair or reinstall fresh! ahhh help plz! thxs in advance!

Out of curioisity, rename regedit.exe, to regedit.com.

Then go to start, run, regedit.

    Do this in Safe Mode.

Tried what you said and i got the same error, nothing different, i checked the directory after i tried to run it in the run window, and it created a new regedit.exe and the regedit.com was right next to it

Yeah, I knew it would recreate it. You can delete the .com one now.

    Try one more.

    regedit.cmd

make sure you enter in the full extension into start, run, when you test it.

Its a portion of your registry thats hosed, however if absolutely no executable works, we cant get in to fix it.

    What about regedit.pif?

    :)
