Brother HL-5370DW Wireless Timeout

    The wireless in Brother HL-5370DW printer is configured with with a static IP address. I use this printer from both Linux and Windows machines. But after several hours of idling the printer disconnects from the wireless network and I am unable to print or ping the printer and must recyle the power in the printer to put it online again.

    Does anyone have any ideas of how to keep this Brother wireless printer online?

    Check the lease time in the router settings. I have mine set to 0, which translates to 24 hours.
    Rather than powering down the printer, what happens when you do an ipconfig /release followed by an ipconfig /renew from a windows computer (linux uses ifconfig)?

    I am using a static IP in the printer. The lease/renew business is only for DHCP assigned IPs, not static ones. So, I don't think that's the issue here.

    Well I'm learning.
    I wanted to set my printer to a static IP and I couldn't do it. So I gave up. Most of the time my printer is assigned the same address.
    I started searching and discovered that I have to set it up from the printer rather than the router - no wonder I couldn't do it.
    Then I stumbled across this on a Linksys page (my router is a linksys).
    I don't know if this is true for all routers but I guess, if you haven't already done this, assign your Brother an address below the ones the router uses.
