    Hello.
Can you please clarify an issue for me? I want to clear my browser cache. Is this information contained within the local settings subfolder "History", and if so, would deleting that folders' contents essentially clear the browser cache?

Now, if I clear the browser cache, does this have any effect on the local settings subfolder "Temporary Internet Files", or do all those files remain unaffected until they are removed?

Thank you for clearing this up.

Clearing the browser cache deletes the contents of Temporary Internet Files, save index.dat. Clearing the history is a totally separate function.

Clearing cache- deletes cached pages and items.

Clearing history- deletes records of where you have been.

    Hello Adrynalyne,

Thank you very much for explaining that. So I am gathering that it is not necessary to clear the "History" folder, and that I should clear the "Temporary Internet Files" folder instead in order to clear the cache. And in order to follow through with this operation, I can use a program such as Index.dat Suite as has been recommended here before.

History should only need to be deleted if you want to keep your privacy, which is fine :)

Hello Adrynalyne and the other Major Geeks,
I appreciate the explanation. I backed-up the "Temporary Internet Files" folder, and then deleted its' contents, hence clearing the browser cache.

I am having another minor problem now, though. After I did this, when I visit some websites, the loading time is way too long, and even when the status bar is completely full, the page still has not even started to load. I then click on the red X to stop the process. This doesn't seem to work, but then I get a message in the toolbar immediately above the task bar that reads something to the effect of "opening page about : blank". After that message appears for about ten seconds, IE closes. I am not getting any error message.

Please give me your thoughts on what this sounds like and how I may correct it. Thank you so much for your assistance.

" about:blank is a highjacked browser or similar wording. A thread in "spyware specific" wold get you help from the experts quicker. Hope this helps ya

I try to clear the cache history file because my disk is too full . I then find it is taking several days while it clears. I turn it off thinking this is not working right. I visit a ton of places and I have never cleared the cache. I know it needs to get done. Does it take many long hours and maybe days to clear?
If not, is there something wrong with my clearing cache on my computer? I also cannot seem to access pages on the internet. This has been happening allot. The page is frozen. Is there a backdoor way to clear it or just wait days to finish this operation? Please help.

Make a new thread, don't pull up an old one from yesteryear.
