The maximum size of your Internet Explorer browser cache is 11923 megabytes. This is a larger value than we recommend. This was from a result on pc pit stop. How can i change it to a lower number?
The pc is asus motherboard k8v, amd64 3200+ processor, 2 gig of ram( 1-1gig pc 3200, 2- 512 pc 2700) win xp serv. pac 2, 2 - 200 gig seagate SATA hd's set up in raid 0, and 1 80 gig ide WD hd as back-up.

    Welcome to Major Geeks

Right click on your IE iconand choose properties
or open IE and choose tools>internet options

    For IE7 choose browsing history>settings

For IE5/6 choose temporary internet files>settings

For either you will see a box showing the browser size. You can either type in new sizes or use the arrows.

For broadband you need no more than 50 MB.
For dial up around 200MB, max is fine.

you should also choose to check or update 'every visit to page' rather than automatically.

    Happy geeking

I did like you said "Right click on your IE iconand choose properties
or open IE and choose tools>internet options

    For IE7 choose browsing history>settings

For IE5/6 choose temporary internet files>settings

For either you will see a box showing the browser size. You can either type in new sizes or use the arrows.

For broadband you need no more than 50 MB.
For dial up around 200MB, max is fine.

you should also choose to check or update 'every visit to page' rather than automatically" it said I was set at 50 MB, and I also checked update every visit to page. Then when I tested on pc pit stop it said the same as before. here is a link to look at http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=RPEXFWHNWJJSQC9J
Thank you for your help, I need all I can get.

    Further thoughts
Your browser cache will ,of course remain until either you manually clear it or the time expires on the cache. The time is settable.

You manually clear the the whole cache from the internet options or the files only by choosing the settings.

If security is an issue you can also se IE to clear everything on exit by ticking the box found on the advanced tab in internet options. Scroll down to the security section if you want this one.
