Browser closing strangely

I have Win 98 SE Dell 800. Normally when I close Firefox it just disappears and i am at my desktop. last night it started closing strangely. It would kind of rachet down until it closed. It did it piece meal at a time, top 1/5 then 2nd 1/5 until all done. This would also happen if I opened the c: drive window and then closed it. Sometimes it would go back to normal later. Any ideas.

 

I would perform a malware scan as per theMalware Removal thread, to ensure that no spyware or viruses are slowing down your system.

Then, I would run a registry cleaner, CCleaner again, (its run in the malware thread) and defrag (start --> programs --> accessories --> system tools --> disk defragmenter)

 

I have run HJT and there is no strange programs running.

 

What are your system specs? Is there anything else running when this happens? How many pages do you have cached? (IIRC, Firefox remembers 8 pages per tab, which would consume memory)

 

Nothing else is unning except systray and explorer. one tab

 

I also have noticed that as it boots to desktop it is normal desktop, then switches to green background, and then to my normal background when it is finally done booting up. I don't ever remember that happening either. I have run aniti virus, spybot, and HJT with nothing coming up strange.

 

I haven't tried it in safe mode, do u mean the browser part or boot up part?
