    Hi everyone!
I was trying to install the "Browser Hijack Blaster", which was downloaded from two different locations whith "bhblastersetup.exe".

Clicking it on sends the error message:

Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access denied

    What can I do now?

    Thank you so much
    Robert

    Hi Robert

Did you download this into a temp folder? try downloading it to the desktop and running it from there.

    Hi Halo,

No, I did download the Application on the desktop - severall times - trying to execute them. Each time came the error message as mentioned.

When I controlled the location with "Explore Search" I noticed that a e.g.
BHBLASTERSETUP.EXE-3B6D74CC.pf file was created in C:\WINDOWS\prefetch.

Does this mean something in the process?

    Thank you
    Robert

Strange that its in the prefetch folder when its not installing,

This tool will clear the prefetch folder for you

as to getting that software installed, next I would be tempted as it mentions the temporary directory two things,

    1. Are you installing this as the Administrator?
    2. Clean out the temp folders Using CCleaner and also check this location C:\WINDOWS\Temp and delete whats in there ( note some inuse files will not delete just delete what can be deleted )

    Hi Halo!

I have no idea why it's not installing!
Now I did everything, you told me

    A. cleared the prefetch folder

    1. Are you installing this as the Administrator?
I have no idea whether I'm the Administrator. I should be, am the only one working with this pc, but never specified myself as the administrator, so how can I know or make sure?

    B. Have Clean out the temp folders and
    C. Checked C:\WINDOWS\Temp and deleted whats was there except 2 files inuse files

Now, please tell me what I should do next?
    Thank you

    Robert

Browser Hijack Blaster was replaced by SpywareGuard. You should probably just download SpywareGuard too solve all your problems. More info about SpywareGuard here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

Good Idea.... Brandon ( huh Controlmind??? ) as this is an updated application it would be better than BHB.

still would love to know why it doesnt install tho as I have downloaded it and installed it ok...

Robert which version of XP you have? if you goto Control Panel > User Accounts and that will tell you if your account name is admin or not

Yes im controlmind ;) SpywareGuard adds a few new features I believe too BHB. So it wouldnt be a bad idea too download and install.

    Hi Brandon and Halo,

    thank you both.
Well, the control panel/user account signifies me as the Administrator (Guest is blocked).
Have Windows XP Home SP2 Version 2002 installed.

I downloaded and obviously installed SpywareGuard ==> Did not/ cannot try the program yet but it installed at least without error message, because that's the situation:
Can see a small icon "SG" now, down at the bottom/right hand corner close to the clock, but if I click on SG by Start/Programs/SG or by way of the shortcut icon on the desktop screen nothing can be opened. It seems the program just stays in the background without being able to be accessed.
It that right or something else is wrong?
    Thank you
    Robert

    Hi Brandon and Halo again,
take part of what I wrote back: SG - window can be opened by rightclicking the icon at the clock.
So I guess you helped me to succeed getting that part of the necessary protection.
    Thank you soo much!!

Now, my question is (or should I better start a new thread?): Could all that protection be by-passed, e.g. by using Windows messenger as a supportive tool?
The reason why this idea came up is because Zone Labs fire wall sends me frequently the warning that msmsgs.exe is trying to monitor the mouse movements and keyboard activities. These messages come in irregular intervals, on week days often and on weekends rarely, so that it seems that someone accesses the pc manually. What do you think about that?
