Ran into an issue where, when I click a link, I get taken to some other unrelated web site (seems to have lots of ads there). I also sometimes get ads that pop over the lower-right of my browser window. They appear on many web sites, and do not seems as if they are coming from that web site.

I've run the procedures in the READ ME FIRST thread, and none of them reported finding any malware. Have attached the log files below.

Thank you very much for any assistance you can offer!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your logs are not showing any problems; however you have an old version of MGtools. This may have happened because we had a problem with our file server for awhile and old files were in place for a half day or more. It would be good to redownload and run. And attach a new log. I also need to ask is the problem only occurring when you use Google Chrome. You need to shutdown Chrome completely and then run only Internet Explorer and see if it also shows the same problem.

    Hello chaslang,

Thank you for your response! I've been on the road for a few days, but I haven't seen the issue recur all day today. Could the process I followed have cleaned it without specifying that a problem had been found?

For what it's worth, this was occurring only in IE (I am running IE9 on Windows 7). I never saw it in Chrome or Firefox.

Do you think it's worth your time for me to run the process again, considering it came up clean, and the issue is no longer occurring?

    Much thanks!

Based on the only logs you attached, no!

See what happens over the next couple days. If the problem shows up again, then it would be worth pursuing it further.

Many times when only one particular browser is showing the hijack, the problem is most likely due to some addon or file attaching itself to that browser and not a general infection. When infections like this occur in Chrome or Firefox, an uninstall, delete of folders related to the browser, and then a reboot and reinstall will fix it. With IE it is a little more complex since IE is integrated into Windows. Sometime just having it run with no-addons fixes the problem. And then sometimes a uninstall/reinstall of the version being used may be needed.
