    Hi all, newbie here.
Windows XP- I.E.browser has been hijacked or I've got a trojan/virus. Whenever I try to go to a web page, a search page pops up in the address bar as follows--

    http://search.dr.shopnav.com/searchcat.jsp?p=98567&appid=21&type=dns&id=16234516512123927&url=search.dr.shopnav.com

After that It comes up with - the page cannot be displayed or try again later -
This happens no matter where I try to surf to. So, in effect, my browser is nonfunctioning.
Any ideas on how to fix it? Adaware and Norton AV has no effect.
Just in case you are wondering--I had to switch to an old windows 98 system to post here.
    Thanks in advance.

Hijackthis! is the program, but it is not easy if your not an advanced user. download it from http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/10/17/10-17-69.shtml
If you cant figure out what your looking at, just post it here.

A Quick way is to download a freebie called BHODemon which will save going thru all the lines in Hijack. Don't have a thread for it but Google should turn it up for you.
    Cheers

Yes the address bar and toolbar are there.
I used spybot, adaware, Symantec AV, and the shopnav removal tool.
All to no avail. It's just not there anymore. Don't have the XP CD either. The comp came
with the OS already installed. The only thing I have left to me is a full restore I guess.

Ok theres no need to be sarcastic dude, you can look for a download and burn it to cd, as you seem to be using a browser ok at the minute

Or you could install a different browser like MY1E2 or Mozilla etc etc

All these things you could of found out yourself if you took the time and effort to look, but no you'd rather come here and give me a hard time when i was trying to help
It wasn't my fault you got in this situation in the first place, and i certainly dont owe you anything so if the best you can do is be sarcastic i suggest you go and pay a professional to repair your machine
Then you are entitled to be as sarcastic as you like

Dude-If you got sarcastic out of my last post, then the problem is with you as I certainly did NOT intend sarcasm. I was merely stating a fact that I had posted in my very first post here on this thread. Perhaps you need to switch to decaf.

The info you've sent HAS been helpful. However, I'm using an old machine and do not have the capability to burn CD's.

But, thanks for all your and others help in my search for answers.
No need to post a reply-or an apology-as I won't be continuing with this post.
