    Hello
While using TeamViewer to help a friend, I ran Secunia and each time I ran a solution, Firefox took over for downloads. The programs only respond to Explorer.
I had to uninstall FF and then all worked. I went to Explorer and checked to see that it was the default browser and looked FF over. How do I stop FF from taking over the downloads while performing this process?
I asume it occurs because I am using Explorer to run Secunia.
    Thank you

    Hello
I learned a lot from that very comprehensive site.
In my case, after gaining control of his pc it was his FF that was causing the trouble. I removed FF and all went well with the repair of the secunia findings.
I had written to Secunia and they told me that FF problems can be registry issue.
They said Gecko entrenches itself and removal involves maneuvering with the registry.
I don't know about this as I am not on that level.
Anyway, thank you again for the great site.

Secunia is quite useful for alerting you to available updates but it isn't always the best way to get them, and often fails to get them in my experience. I prefer usually to go and get the updates myself from the author's site.

    >>The calendar was an interesting site. You also mentioned MG's Home Page.
Do you have a moment to expound upon these references so I can learn about them. Thank you

    >>Yes, thank you. I made sure his Explorer was the default browser and not FF. When I opened the solution in secunia Firefox still took control.
It is a moot point now as his issues are solved.

MajorGeeks Homepage shows new software programs (paid and free) and also updates to numerous others. http://www.majorgeeks.com/

The Calendar of Updates (from what I gather) colors program updates to software in red, pink for malware updates and yellow for AV updates and misc. eg. Microsoft in blue. Also it lists software programs which come with toolbars etc. (junk), the ones most of us don't want. (Installer Hall of Shame, in blue) By clicking on these updates, one is taken to a download site with info about the updates. (I never update/download from there though) Since both offer not always the same ones, checking both keeps me proactive instead of waiting for Secunia to tell me there are updates. I do this almost daily, perhaps too often for many, but done in that way I'm always up-to-date. :) Hope that the above clarifies a bit.
