In what status (Running or Stopped) "Browser" service must be on the WIN XP computer, if a computer is under Domain with administration of domain controler? :confused

The Computer Browser service should be running on a domain as this is what will keep the list of computers while exploring 'My Network Places' up-to-date.

If you stop this service, nobody will be able to see your computer on this list, and you won't be able to see others.

By design, the browser service is not used when connected to a domain.

The reasoning is, net crawl across a large domain would cause so much network traffic, it would bring the entire domain to its knees.

While it may run--it doesn't do anything while connected. Also, in the browse election, XP gets bumped anyway, so it doesn't matter. PDC will always win (when things are working right ).

Thats according to Microsoft, which has been wrong before ;)

Nope, that's right... my mistake. The master browser is responsible for maintaining this list - didn't realize that it rendered the browser service useless.
