Something strange has started to happen on my PC, when i am browsing and i click on a link or a download link my browser shuts down, i am using FF, it also happens if i make a reply to a post here and use "manage attachments" the moment i click browse that too shuts down the browser.

I have run checks and do not seem to have any malware in the system so i am curious if any one has any ideas.

I'm waiting to see what others think: I know that anything weird like that w/my browser, my first thought is "have I been to any 'weird' sites?" ... "have I made any 'changes' to my browser settings?" and finally, I'd try using Internet Explorer, or some *other* browser, to make sure it's not system wide, or even some hidden malware I haven't spotted...

Then, if nobody on here had any better suggestions, I'd probably reinstall, either Opera or Firefox, and just transfer favorites and stuff...I have Vista now, and actually use the Google Chrome Browser, since it seems "speedy" and I like that...but second to that, I've always liked Opera....

Best wishes, maybe somebody'll come along, w/more info...

Hey Ducky my first thoughts exactly, i have not been surfing naughty sites so i can rule that out and not changed any settings that i know of.

It is just a pain in the butt having to reload the web page.
and as a matter if interest it never does it after i reload the page, then after about 20min it reverts to the shutdown.

Does it only happen with FF or all browsers. I would do a internet clean up with Ccleaner and see if that helps. Maybe even reinstall the browser. I installed Mozilla’s new Beta Browser Minefield just over a month ago and find it very fast.

Bill, I'm posting this from IE :( With FF V3, I'm unable to post on MG and other sites :confused it simply *time's out* on MG and another forums I frequent. So I gotta open IE>> No Book marks!! >> search for MG>> Go to the forum >> thread :cry Seeing more than a few issues with FF being posted on MG. And mine seems like new one?? Was never a prob b'fore the recent upgrade. Not on Beta by the way... Will try a clean install as per FF links..
    Sorry for the hijack!!

I've had similar problems, after periods of time, w/both FF and Opera--and I like them both, particularly Opera--but I always do 1st the Ccleaner stuff, then 2nd drag out old IE, and if that changes things--I still don't like IE all *that* much--I'll download new version of FF or Opera *or* try Google Chrome...which I find--almost against my will--kind of slick and simple and speedy...yeah, I like the bookmarks and the Open Source stuff of Opera...but Google Chrome's pretty cool...and real easy to install...just a fwiw post...

I'm glad you are solving yer difficulties, sounds like you kind of knew all along, and sometimes I just need a nudge on here, too, to do things I had simply forgotten...other times, I'm total doofus until somebody on here straitens me out :-D

    Best wishes...

I actually agree with you, Maybe I'm just too impatient, but I've changed everything in profile--or preferences--or all kinds of areas of various browsers...and still sometimes it just doesn't work...but again, usually I just get frustrated, and reinstall, and that usually solves problems, unless it's something in my system causing problems...and yep, on the diagnostic guide, again, a little patience on my own part, would probably do wonders...

What I really do is just thro everything I can think of at problem, until I get tired of it...rather than use the guide that they browser provides, but anyway, as usual, u have the sane experienced view...while I have the nutcase "Do This!...No, Don't do *This*!...Do *that*!" approach to computers...and life, sadly... :-D
