I'm using Crazy Browser and I love it. Only problem - it needs IE installed for it to run. I don't like IE and would love to boot it off my computer even though I'd lose CB. I don't think IE is safe.

In the last couple of days, I've downloaded and uninstalled Firefox and Chrome.

Firefox is too busy asking me to add features to be useful. It also failed to copy my bookmarks from IE, which renders it useless for emails.

Chrome just gives me a list of the files contained within it's program. It does not give me a usable browser with tabs so I can use it to contact sites and there is no list of email favourites.

I've tried Opera in the past and wasn't particularly keen on it.

What I need is a small browser like Crazy Browser that stands alone, takes me to my Favourites list, and lets me get on with it without throwing at me additions and other bells and whistles.

    Any suggestions?

Lord knows how you have formed your judgement that IE is 'not safe', as your comments about the other browsers well illustrate just how little you understand of any of them. Anyway, you cannot boot IE off your computer (unless you switch to Linux) as it is an integral and essential part of Windows, so you might as well just stick with CB.

I wouldn't know how to function with Linux. I have enough trouble with Windows and Word2010.

I formed my opinion of IE being unsafe by browsing in places where they run comparisons of IE, FF, and Chrome. All mention IE as being the least safe to use. If I'm forced to have it, then I'll stick with CB. It's small, fast, and no-messing-about.

Thanks for letting me know I can't boot IE. Big disappointment. At least I can stop it from updating all the time.

Thanks for reminding me, Oma. I know I'm suffering from recent memory loss so this is an added thing I forgot. Three doctors checked and it isn't Alzheimers, thank God.

If I do something silly like this again, shoot me.

It's just like politics Lavender - labour/democrats good, tory/republican bad. Nothing but propaganda, mostly written by ppl who are just repeating what others have said. Firefox's claim to be 'safer' was based on nothing more than it did not by default have flash installed (though you can add it yourself). Fact is that IE, used sensibly along with a firewall and good AV, is every bit as safe as any other browser, and the only reason I don't use it much is because you have to pay for a decent ad blocker. The latest version 9, for Vista and Win 7 only, is unbelievably fast though.

It shouldn't be a big disappointment. If you don't like IE, then simply don't use it. The mere fact that IE is in your system should not be cause for concern. And, you should let Windows Update install updates to IE since they're usually security related. All browsers make security improvements as they release version updates.

Yes, I can believe it's a load of politics, but I appreciate you words because they give me a feeling of security regarding IE.

Those three browsers are vying for the top spot. I tried them when they first came out and booted them right away. All I need most of the time is CB because I rarely go anywhere 'fancy'.

I installed Comodo anti-Virus after booting Avast. So far so good. It isn't finding anything suspicious. I'll run another full scan before I close down for the night.

Thanks for putting up with my silly "repeated" questions.

    Thanks.

When IE9 first came out and updated itself, I found I couldn't use certain forums. Someone blamed IE9 so I dropped back to IE8. The forums worked okay then.

Perhaps they've made some changes to IE9 since then. If it is security related, I'll update because that has become a big issue for me after one email was hacked.

Unless no alternative I use IE8 rarely and for security updates of course. For that rare use I've Simple Adblock (free) installed in IE. It's free version is limited though.
Quote a bit confusing eh? http://simple-adblock.com/

    You're not kdding, it's confusing.

With CB, I can't say I've noticed any adds, but it gets me to where I want to go so fast, I probably wouldn't see them. LOL

    Have you tried K-Meleon ?

Small and fast. I use it occasionally when I want fast access to something without having to wait for
    a larger browser to load.

Was there something in particular you did not like or had trouble with in Opera?
Although Opera 10.xx now has access to Extensions, some things that require extensions in Firefox
are built into Opera. Maybe you should give another try.

    Many thanks.

Maybe I'll give Opera another try. I downloaded K-meleon but I thought it was a bit strange.

If I'm stuck with having IE on my computer I might as well stay with Crazy Browser. It's so fast.
