Browser "Timeout" - IE7

10 minutes after booting up Windows XP, my webbrowser (IE7) is unable to load any webpages.

    Works fine for 10 minutes.

My outlook is still able to send and receive E-mails and remains connected to my server.

The only way to "reset" my 10 minute browser functional timer is a complete shutdown and restart of my computer (or maybe a log off and re-login to windows - I will try that right now).

Anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas?

When i had a problem like that it wound up being related to heating up of the comp. i cleaned the the comp by taking off the cover and finding a mass of dust inside and vacuuming it out. Many users have different ways of doing this which i wish i would have looked at before doing mine. i would check and see if this could be the problem first. The other thing i would look at is a connection issue. You can do this by going to speedtest.net and ping your server to see your up and down speeds.

I just tested my connection, I'll try to test again after my browser shuts down.

I think it is a software issue because it happenes exactly at the 10 minute mark consistently and I am still able to send and receive E-mails via Outlook.

I believe it is either a problem with IE7 or my windows login profile.

I was unable to ping the server at Speedtest.net after the 10 minute period had expired. Also not able to connect to any websites.

Only after a complete shutdown and restart of my computer was I able to get back to this website - I have 7 minutes of surfing time left.

Outlook still worked fine after the browser stopped working and my wireless connection indicated I was connected with Signal Strength: Excellent.

Create another user and see if it too suffers from the 10 min. internet shut off.

No luck - same results with a new user account...on a different domaine, and using a ethernet/cable modem internet connection.

I get 10 minutes of browsing and then.....no more webpages -

    "Unable to Display webpage...."

A 'soft' retstart of Windows does not work either. The only way I can reset my 10 minute window of online browsing is to completely shut the compute off and restart Windows from scratch.

Again.....Outlook is still able to remain connected and successfully send and receive E-mails.

I have already reset my IE settings twice.

I'd contact Sandi Hardmeier. She is a MS MVP and her area of expertise is Internet Explorer. http://www.ie-vista.com/
I can find nothing on the site that mentions IE giving 404 errors after a time period.
One thing I did see. If you have any addons, to troubleshoot, run it without the addons. It's explained here http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#tsie

    Thanks for the lead.

Another thing just learned about the problem...it allows me to visit HTTPS websites...strange.

    Thanks again.

    I have sent her an E-mail - we'll see.

    New datapoints:

    - I reinstalled IE7...no change

    - I am able to surf the net indefinitely while logged into Safe mode with networking

    - In regular boot up mode, I closed all processes running except those which were running while I was in safe mode with networking. When I did that, there were 3 processes I was unable to close (they kept opening back up)

    inetinfo.exe
    spoolsv.exe wmiprvse.exe

    my 10 minutes is up.....

Can anyone think of any tests or experiments I could try to use and get more definable data on this problem?

    Much appreciated.

reset my browser settings again - no luck.

This seems almost like my browser looses it's ability to resolve DNS entries.

Could it be possible tat my DNS server is being timed out or blocked - or losing it's mind??

I have looked into all my LAN settings (at least the ones I understand) and tey look ok - also called my ISP and tey indicated all settings seemed right.

I am able to surf whereever I want in Safe mode with networking.

Could this somehow be a bios setting?

I reinstalled IE7 after uninstalling it and tried loading Netscape 9.0.

My browser is still unable to display webpages after 10 minutes (exactly).

I ran the network diagnostics - my connection failed. It said it was unable to connect to the "DefaultIPgateway".

I am still able to connect to HTTPS websites and send and receive E-mails through Outlook.

I can navigate on the internet as long as I want in Safe mode.

Can anyone give me any suggestions about whom I can contact to get a resolution to my problem?

Do you mean that when you boot up XP you auto launch your browser? If so, don't do this; remove IE from launching as soon as windows starts. Do some things on XP, lasting more than 10 minutes then launch your browser. If it doesn't open or gives a 404 error, look in the event viewer (Contol panel/admin tools) and see what sort of errors are showing up.
