Browser will not process Java Script applications

I never wanted to say someting like this but my PC has stopped processing any browser window that uses Java Script. I am running Windows 98 SE on an Intel Celeron CPU with 256MB Memory and a 6GB hard drive. I currently use AOL but have had this problem previously with other ISP using IE5.5 and 6. I have already tried downloading Java Virtual software and Windows Updates but have had no success. When I click on a link that uses Java I get an open window with no content visible. Any help you might provide would be greatly appreciated.

do you have the java web start and java runtime enviroment?

 

I do have Java Web Start...I am uncertain about Java Runtime Environment. I downloaded Java Web Start from a website buthave been unclear how it might help.

 

did you get the ava web start from www.java.com? Chances are tat if you have that then you do have java installed. My best guess is that you're internet explorer is the problem here, in that it's probably lost it's java settings. Have you tried another browser? This would simply make it easy to narrow down the problem.

 

Make sure under tools/internet option/advanced tab that you have java enabled there is an option in there and also under security settings I believe
