Ok first off i am an experienced user of Firefox. I have never had a problem until now.

Firefox runs slow as molasses, will not load pages all the time, and takes up tons of memory after a few minutes of running.

Ive tried Opera, IE(never again! lol), Safari, and Chrome.

So far chrome is the fastest, and most reliable but is it safe? Ive gotten conflicting reports from my friends "in the biz". One of them is a major nut about security and claims chrome will lead my pc to destruction, the other is a friend at Oracle, used to work for Red Hat, and claims chrome is the next coming of Christ. Opinions on that? Facts?

Either way, all browswers have a problem with my gaming guilds forums. I log in seeing new posts, but after i click to read one of them, they all go read. It just started happening, and it now only happens on this one site consistantly, and usually only when i first start up the browser.

Thanks for any and all opinions/help on this,

PS, still havent gotten around to the upgrade to the processor. Will keep you posted on that in the original thread. (just in case anyone remembered reading my old post in hardware LOL)

    Change the statement
    to
    .

Browsers all have their inherent security risks, but the reality is, one really isn't safer than the other. All have their security flaws, including FF. If you rely on browser security to keep you safe, you are screwed no matter which browser you use.

If you are worried about Chrome, run it sandboxed with sandboxie. Then its heads and shoulders more secure than Firefox.

The only time i have ever had persistant problems with FF slowing down to such a dgree, turned out to be caused by me importing all my old paswords and settings.

It was a pain in the a$$ but i just wrote down all my passwords and started a fresh, reinstalling all my addons manually.

(never seen the issue before or again though?)

    Q

Edit: the biggest pain was, losing my Ad-Block list which after years of tweaking was pretty tight:(

This is a relatively new install of Firefox. Got a new pc and just revisited the sites, inputting them manually.

My bigger problem is really just the unread posts going to being read for no reason in any of my browsers. FF, was very random, but chrome does it religiously with this particular site, on startup. Doesnt seem to do it throughout the day, just on startup.

It would be sweet if i could get FF working right too though lol

Any chance there is a virus or malware at work here that AVG, Spybot and Spyware blaster didn't catch and wont catch?

Ive also tried Avast! but it seemed to mess up other things running on my pc and just never seemed to work correctly.

There is always a possibility. FF is not immune. Check out the stickies in the malware forum.

It wouldn't hurt to install and run malwarebytes.
The majority of top ten baddies seems to be trojans. I don't know how good AVG is about detecting trojans. (SpywareBlaster doesn't catch anything; it is passive and prevents some things from setting foot on the computer). You really only have two detection items working AVG and Spybot. I usually have 3 or 4 installed, along with SpywareBlaster.
Malwarebytes is my number one and then I usually install Superantispyware as well as an AV program, currently it is AntiVir.

Thanks all, i think i've determined its none of the above. Malwarebytes detected nothing, SUPERantispyware detected a few trackers.

I think my ISP is at fault for most of my problems, or at least the combo wireless router/phone/tv modem. I just don't think AT&T's service here in Tx is great and from what i've heard, time warner is much worse.

Thankfully its just one page and not really that big of a problem.

    Yet again, these forums rock.

All browsers are safe to use, but it most comes down to the user and which sites you visit. Most browsers have built in protection and some don't which then you need to use your own (ie. AVG with zonealarm firewall)

    Hope this answers your question.

You may want to qualify that by saying all up to date browsers can be used safely. If you never bother to keep up with the security patches, you can get malware via drive by - no clicking anything on the site. Even "safe" sites can be hacked and harbor nasty things for a while before it is discovered.

blatherbeard is a busy bee on these forums I see and well versed at getting to the point with no bull.

I too use FF as my choice of browser and really did not care for the slow down from version 2 to 3.5

I have came across a program that states it installs any program (.exe) once installed to load/run faster.

So far I have used it on FF only and is does indeed load much faster, but it took forever to run it's diagnose (debug mode) while you need to use the program in question.

Here is the program in question speedload

I almost gave up on this program as it really took way to much time to do it's magic, but once done I noticed via windows task manager that FF was not using as much ram memory to operate and ran much quicker,so I may use this program on other programs to speed them up on loading and running.

I only use AVG with Zonealarm on laptops while using Avira and Zonealarm on desktops, both being the free versions.

::: May all your endeavors come to light :::
