    hello,

thanks for taking the time to review my post~

i posted this morning in the malware forum (please see here for full details if needed... https://forums.majorgeeks.com/threads/browsing-99-disabled.319654/),

because my (ancient windows vista system's) browser(s) recently started to act strange, and now i can barely load any web pages -

and rogue killer found 23 infections (but, due to instructions to first post logs, i did not at the time remove all 23, and upon re-running, it found "only" 12 ...and browsing still not working hardly any better)...

please, please, someone help me? i will provide you whatever diagnostic info you need... i use this old computer only to run videos as a small money earning activity, but i really depend on the income...

thanks for any help that anyone would please take the time to provide~

    ~princi

The first question, since your primary use for this old machine is running videos, is why open the browser(s) at all? In fact, why don't you just disconnect it? Apart from browsing is the system working ok otherwise?

hi :) ...sadly i have to view the videos through my browser - the video providers track my viewing and reward me for it... and for me, the videos/internet use is all i do on this computer, so i wouldn't know if anything besides browsing is affected -

but the browsing is /slightly/ better since 12 out of 23 infections found by rogue killer were cleaned -

i feel that this is a malware issue, infections were even found -

maybe the malware /changed/ some internet settings - could somebody please help evaluate and get mine back to normal?

i tried to just edit my post, instead of bumping, but the malware won't let me -

and i had wanted to say that as soon as i try to look for anything on bing related to help with malware...the pages start not loading again - it is like the malware knows, and is trying to keep me from getting help... oh i hope someone will help me, please :(

Ok in search bar on start menu.

Type Command prompt or CMD.Make sure that command prompt has administrator rights.By right clicking on black box. There will be a drop down menu.

Next in command prompt type these command lines below or copy and past.

    ipconfig /flushdns
    Capture.PNG

ipconfig /release "will release the current IP configuration"release all so disables your internet for a short time. You have to renew it to re-enable it.
    Capture.PNG

ipconfig /renew "renew will assign a new IP"
    Capture 2.PNG

I have read through your malware logs and only saw a few Pum software.I agree with tim state ment. You are not infected by malware. Some stuff is only classified as malware. But is most likely a false positive.Have you downloaded any thing recently that would cause this type of issue.

hi... in command prompt, i typed in:

    "c:\windows\system32>ipconfig /flushdns"

and it said... "could not flush the dns resolver cache: function failed during execution"

(...thank you very much for taking a look at my logs ...i don't think i've knowingly installed anything new in a long time, although maybe something "snuck in" to my system, maybe from the video providers whose content i watch for a little earnings [though they're usually pretty reputable]

...okay, thanks, and i ~patiently~ await to hear from you, whenever :))

(okay i will check that out -

the registry change, do you think that could be from rogue killer removing what it removed ...and do you think i could do system restore to go back to before rogue killer removed? [...i considered it, but i don't think i manually changed anything in the registry because i know how risky that can be]...)

Most likely. Some stuff can only do certain task as programmed.

Watch this video on how to run twaking.com program.Allow the program to do it's thing.Let it run for how ever long it needs.Don't close any pop ups that show up during scan process.

    hi,

i did watch the video, but because i dont really know about these things, i ran the pre-set "malware cleanup" - rather than all the fixes,

and when my comp came back on after restart, i was still having internet trouble so i tried again flushing the dns, hoping that would help -

i received the same error again in command prompt, about not being able to flush the dns... -

should i run, in the tweaking program, like, all the fixes, and maybe that will fix something that the pre-set fix missed ...and then allow the other work to be done?

thank you for your ~ongoing~ help~...

    hi :)

i (watched the video, and - in safe mode, w/ networking, and, as "administrator") did (only) the "flush dns" option through the program (and rebooted) -

after rebooting, the globe/internet connectivity icon actually came and has stayed up for the several minutes since rebooting - so that's an improvement so far!

although when i tried to get in to my email and get back here, each page still took over a minute to load -

do i still need to do the ip release and renew steps, mentioned above?

and if so, do i do those with the internet repair program ...and how so? (the video didn't give me any idea how to figure out /what/ is wrong or /which/ options i should use, and i was worried to select all, and do damage...)

and/or should i choose other options in the program, such as winsock repair or anything else?

i feel we've made good progress, THANKS TO YOUR HELP!, so please don't give up on me now :)

looking foward to hearing from you, and thanks! :)

(update ...just after i posted this, i became unable to access _any_ web pages despite trying like 50 times, multiple different sites ...receiving the "dns address could not be found" message...)

    hi there :)

...did you read my earlier post? ...i ran the internet repair program, only the "dns flush" option, and at least now the internet connectivity globe is in my system try - 99% of the time ; it did disappear, once -

but i still had a bout of major trouble accessing web pages -

do i still need to do the ip RELEASE and RENEW steps mentioned?,

and should i run any other repair options with the program?

hi :) ...i totally respect you must be so busy, both with helping other people here, _and_ with your other responsibilities in life~ ...but if you could please get back to me, when you get a chance, i'd be so grateful~ -

i tried the "release" and "renew" steps in command prompt, & it said they cannot be done "when media is disconnected" ...i dont know what that means...,

and i wanted to ask you about "deleting the network adapter" - do you think that would help?

and/or i just found a little usb plug in wifi card, that says comes with "drivers" - do you think i should try installing that, and maybe even if the existing internet remains messed up, that would give me a secondary option?

i am just taking chances on suggesting things ...hope you may be able to help, but ~respect~ that you're busy -

    and ~thank you~

That means that your computer doesn't recognize that an ethernet cable is plugged into the NIC.
So, either the cable is bad or the NIC (ethernet card) inside your computer has died.

...i would like to say that, i do know enough that when the upstream & downstream lights go out on my modem, that something is wrong, and, i then unplug/re-plug the modem... , but...

my modem has not indicated any sign of trouble, and then, today -

not only was the computer i've been asking you about, completely unable to access any web pages at all,

but two other computers in my home also became unable,

and _because of them_, i unplugged/re-plugged the modem, and...

the computer i've been asking you about ...seems okay??

(probably as soon as i try to post this message, it will again become unable to access any web pages, but, i've been able to view pages for over an hour now...)

...i can't understand why i seemed to be having problems with, first only one browser (firefox), then the problem affected all my browsers (as though a problem within my /computer/, that had spread) ...but no sign of trouble indicated by the modem lights (?)

...i'm sorry i have been bugging all of you for days/weeks and, possibly this could have been fixed by just unplugging/re-plugging my modem :( ...but it never occurred to me that it could be a modem issue (and a mild/easily fixed one, at that), because the lights seemed fine... :(

(just a thought - maybe i did /past tense/ have malware, because, another thing that happened, was, _every time_ i'd try to close multiple tabs on my browser, my computer started getting a blue-screen -

and maybe i then got /totally/ whammied with modem probs as well? ...ugh, whatever the cause, i'm sorry for bugging you folks...)

It would have been very helpful if you had mentioned this in your first post.

If all computers are unable to access the internet, you might have a modem or router problem.

Are you using a modem and router or a modem/router combination, called a Gateway? What is/are the brand(s) and exact model(s) of 1 or 2 devices?

    -

hi, i apologize for the late reply,

and also i apologize because, i caused some confusion - the other computers in my home only became unable to access the internet ~the day before yesterday~ ...

what i have is a modem and router, motorola sbg6580 -

(i have, in the past, had internet /outages/, which were always indicated by the lights on the modem ...and my internet service provider has been no help with those...

[this, though, was different, as the modem lights never let on any problem with the connection ...it seemed like a computer issue [and, isolated to /one/ computer, at that...] )

things - *fingers crossed***** - seem okay now,

and if i start to have the same type of problems again, i will first try unplugging and re-plugging the modem, _even if the lights do not indicate a problem, as in the past they always had, when there was a connection problem_...

...thanks, all, for helping keep my ...ancient... computer still running - i just use it for the small money earning activities i mentioned, and the income is a help...

    happy holidays to all :)
