BSOD 0x08E

I seem to be having a slight issue with the above mentioned BSOD error.

Had a bit of pc issues; ended up getting new graphics card (Radeon 5600 series) and a new Mobo (Asus M4A78 Plus). Formatted my main drive, reinstalled windows vista; installed Drivers that were on the mobo disc; installed graphic card drivers and updated both. Went thru all the windows updates available to me. At first it kept coming up with 0x019 Bad Pool Header. Took out the old ethernet card; as i realised the new mobo as a port for it, that one went away.

I read that it could be RAM related; ran memtest for about 2.5 hours with no errors in sight.

Seems to happen most when playing World of Warcraft; or just randomly.

Windows Vista Home Premium;
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+
3gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5600 Series.

What further info do i need to provide you with to help you help me?

 

did u tried to install the amd procesor dirvers ??? u can get it off the amd's support n drivers...

 

Was under the impression they werent required for Vista. Care to point me to the vista drivers? I cant locate them

 

U have ur motherboard dirvers installed ?? i had some problems bout that ? lol now i have big problems with crossair dominator 1066 ....:cry

 

Yes, The drivers that were with the disc that came with the mobo. First thing that was installed.

 

Wich mobo u have...Maybe there are some new improvments in new driver cihpset package,do you have all ram sticks the same ? if not try to run the same sticks if u have all of them diffrent then try running one stick....if thats not the problem then maybe it in you cpu's memory (l2,l3 chache....)

try running some cpu test wich includes chache testing...

EDIT: Prime95 is one of the cpu testers.....and even ram if u chose blend.... small ftt and large ftt stand mostly for cpu... give it a shoot...

 

Ok if it's not that what i wrote before...i did little research and this is what i found.... try this out too..

A little more Google revealed that this Rootkit, once installed is undetectable by anything, quite the amazing little piece of code...

This was it the B version... I followed the directions on Symantec's site to remove it by booting into recovery console from an XP CD. (You cannot detect it in Safe Mode)

Once there I used "Disable pe386" to shut off the rootkit... I looked while in safe mode for this service and it WAS NOT there... Since it loads with kernel / driver data, it hides everything about itself...

Symantec's Cleanup Instructions...

Rebooted in Normal mode and no more BSOD, reinstalled NAV and started it scanning when I left the shop... I will run ADSSpy again and see if it finds the alternate data stream now...

I realize that this is not the only cause of 0x8e errors but this was my problem, and since there were two machines in the shop with the same problem, I can see more of these coming in for repair...

Hope this helps those who have just recently developed STOP: 0x0000008E errors.
