BSoD Crash Repeat Cycle

As to try and save you all some time I have looked at similar threads with my problem on this forum and on many other online forums. All of their solutions dont seem to work for me or they seem to be hardware problems. I also hope this is in the right section, I know its not a hardware issue so I didnt put it there, so I was in a debate between software or malware. I saw a post from about 2004 get fixed with a similar issue in the malware so i decided on this section.

For me, this has been a reoccurring problem as the same issue just happened to me a couple months back. Although, this time, the solution I found last time has not worked for this particular problem even though they seem to me as the same issue. I'm trying this for my last resort before I have to take it in and spend money on fixing this computer..So i'm hoping you all can help me to fix it!

Ok, so the problem I'm having is that I was browsing facebook and youtube like normal, havn't installed any new programs(that I know of) and all of the sudden things started getting crazy. Windows were freezing and etc... I attempted to open task manager and when I did that, it gave me an error message. I proceeded to shut down the computer and when I did that, thats when things got bad. After I turned the computer back on, like regular it showed the blue hp screen, then the black windows screen, right after that, it flashes the BSoD or something like it for less than a second, the problem with it is that I cant read any details because it comes so fast. From what I can see, it isnt the same BSoD that most people get with a hardware error. I wasn't too concerned at this point because last time when this happened to me i also hadn't installed any new programs and a random crash caused the repeating blue screen. I found a fix on the internet to change the SATA mode in BIOS to IDE instead of RAID. So i proceeded to go to BIOS but obviously since I had already done it, the SATA mode was in IDE already, So i tried switching it back to RAID and resetting BIOS defaults to make sure I hadn't changed anything else. Well, after I tried everything I could think of and it still didn't work. I resorted to posting this very lengthy thread on this website.

Some of my main problems are, my hp warranty is out. I dont have my OS disc. Also a funny thing about this problem is that it lets me go into BIOS but if I try to enter system recovery with f10 nothing happens at all. Also safe mode does not work, nor does last know working condition.

Hopefully I have covered all the needed information, if you guys need anything else like about my system specs and what not let me know ill be checking this constantly. So pleeeease I hope you can help me fix this before I have to go send my computer to a shop.

I am going to reply to your thread....with this basic message....
This is assuming your power supply is not dead or your motherboard is not fried.

I asked you to be a little nicer with your replies. What happens when you chase off all the folk willing to help you?

Go to another forum until you chase them off too?

TimW is offering you advice on how to fix it. None of us are going to drive over to your residence and fix it for you. Some of this has to be done on your end. All of it, actually. Sometimes, advice is not what you want, but what you need to hear.

It is....and we have been trying to support you. But as to the discussion of posting in malware from the other thread...that is what we would have suggested. And then referred you to the software forum. You need to be patient and others will assist you. I have duties in the malware forum.

Your thread in the other forum needs to be linked to this one...which I will do. So that people wanting to help you can see what has been discussed already, such as whether or not you get any activity when you turn it on...do the fans spin.....what exactly happens. Does anything work? Etc. What was the exact BSOD error??

    Link to other thread

Your other option is to download a Live Linux CD, or another form of bootable CD to be able to access files. Not being able to get into an OS, or at least its files, leaves, well, no options to fix it.

Sorry about my rudeness, it's a little frustrating when I had my thread up there for a few days and everybody else was prioritized over me, thats done and gone now so whatever.

As for the fans spinning and stuff like that, it used to sound regular and fine now its very loud and fans sound very abnormal. As for the actual error message on the BSoD, as much as I would love to tell you, as I said, it flashes for less than a second and I really can't see what it says...

The only other thing that works is BIOS
No system recovery, no last know good config, no safe mode..nothing

If you can get into the files via one of the above methods, you can grab the memory dump file and see what the deal is. Or we can revert the registry by hand.

Can you burn a CD, or do you have a flash drive?

Either can be used, pick your poison. Obviously, your computer must have the ability to boot to a flash drive.

I'm on my moms mac (which I hate btw Dx soo slow) so I'm not sure about burning cd's but I have access to a few flashdrives all are 2gb so I'm hoping that's enough. What do you want me to do with it?

That was due to being in the lounge, not in a tech forum. ;)
I am suspecting a power supply that is only giving enough power to get into bios. Hummm.

    OS X--hmmm.

The program that will create the bootable flash drive won't work on OS X.

What are the specs of the Mac? How old is it?

@Tim, No, im talking about my post that was in malware removal for a few days, I just posted the lounge post today :p.

As for the power suppy, it isn't stock, I have about 650 watts, enough for a nvidia 9600 gt and 4 gigs of ram. So unless it's broken, hopefully not it's kind of new, i don't think that's it, but im also not the expert ;)

@Adry, Um i think she got it christmas 2008, it's a macbook, it's not that old.

Nope. I want the specs of the machine he is actually using at the moment :p

    Then it can burn CDs.

    http://www.knoppix.org/

    Download, burn, boot.

If it fails on boot, thats an ominous sign. Let us know.

Thanks for all your help, just a few quick questions.

As for burning the CD, normally I just use iTunes for music, do I need a certain program to burn that to a cd since it isn't music.

Also, you mention a flash drive? Because I'm not sure if I have any data CD's, the CD's I have infront of me are music CD's but I think my dad might have some data ones. If have no data cds, can a flashdrive work for the same thing?

Lastly, once I do burn that to a cd if I can, do I just plop it in and turn on the PC? Or do I need to press anything.

Looks like I've got a pretty long download ahead'o me. I have a couple assignments to do and the office and 30 rock are on tonight. I'm guessing that my results will probably be tomorrow unless this goes faster lol. Again thanks for all the help will let you know when it's done.

Probably because it was moved to the software section, today before it was moved it was about page 4 in the malware section.

I'm glad I got some feedback today tough =]

Hopefully the linux bootdisc im installing will work, otherwise I'm going to take it into the store =[

well, getting booted up is only part of the battle. NExt part comes in when we need to get the data so we can see whats up.

Sorry for the wait I was not able to get on the computer last night.

The knoppix boot iso finished downloading so i followed the instructions in that link you gave me on how to write that iso to a disc on os x.

I had a problem though, when i hit file, open iso, and then i located the knoppix iso, when i tried to open it, it said file could not be read.

In a few minutes my dad's friend is coming over with some utility discs, i can ask him if he know how to get the knoppix to write, otherwise we will see if his utility discs will load.

Ill get back to you with the results.

    Thanks again lol.
