BSOD during XP repair install

WinXP Home SP2 - BSOD 0x0000007E
This error popped up during a repair install of XP Home. No other parameters are listed, and no file name is listed. The message says "if this is the first time you've seen this, restart your PC, blah blah" and "if you have added any new hardware or software blah blah". I was getting some errors in Windows (like "Generic Win32 Process has encountered an error...") so I thought a repair install would help. Nope. It made things worse. :cry

Any ideas?

Also, did you happen to do any software installs prior to your repair? and what was the reasoning of the repair in the first place?

The PC is in mid-chkdsk as I type this.... running a "/r" chkdsk can fix 0x07e BSODs when it's an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error, but in this scenario, I'm getting no real error message (nothing like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and no file name is listed either. The next time I reboot (it might be tomorrow) I'll try to post the exact message. The last program installed was AVG free, before that was SUPERantispyware. Before that I had uninstalled Norton, and I was setting up some free protection for the PC owner.

I managed to take a screen shot w/ a web cam and I attached it below. It basically says the same things you covered earlier... the parameters after STOP: 0x0000007E are:
(0xC000005, 0xF77A5750, 0xF79E0430, 0xF79E012C)
They got cut off due to my wonderful photography skills. LOL

 

Obvious questions, do you have any new hardware added, also are you able to get into the computer to see if its possible to get a memory dump. I will look into those error codes and get back to you dlb.
