So my computer has been restarting randomly lately.

    Dell XPS 420
    4GB RAM

Bought it a few years ago, and it's been doing this for about 3 months, but now it's unbareable.

Restarts randomly with NO BSOD, and then sometimes it restarts with a BSOD of IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I ran sfc/scannow and there were no integrity violations.

What do you suggest in my next step? I'll post any logs that I can for you.

    Many thanks!

Can you upload the logs in the following folder: C:\windows\minidump ?

    Welcome Dentafrice :)

Please uninstall MagicDisc and MagicISO via Add/Remove Programs, reboot then delete or rename mcdbus.sys - it's probably in the Windows\System32 folder.

There also appears to be a problem with something connected via USB.

Can you tell me what firewall and antivirus programs you have installed please?

This is on a non-internet development machine, just local network so all it has is Spyware Search & Destroy.

The Dell Service Tag# will be useful to check the original specification. Have there been any additional hardware components installed?

Is there a reason that SP2 has not been installed?

The minidumps stretch back to December but there are some lengthy breaks, is the machine sometimes unused for weeks at a time?

Post your current BIOS revision level.

    Post your Power Supply specifications.

Check to ensure all fans are working (especially PSU, CPU, and discrete video card).

Ensure that there's nothing clogging the heatsinks/coolers (Esp. PSU, CPU, and video card), also lightly brush off any dust from the Northbridge heatsink.

Ensure that all cards and cables are firmly seated - best to disconnect then re-seat carefully.

Ensure that the memory sticks are clean (clean with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth) and that the slots are clean also (blow out with canned air).

Use Speedfan to check your temperatures, let us know the reported temps.

Run a HDD diagnostic: you'll need to find the manufacturers diagnostic disc for your installed hard drive(s), use the DOS version on a long test if you can. Report any errors.

Run a memory diagnostic: MemTest86+, run it for 7 passes or overnight - any errors will need investigating further to rule out a bad stick or bad slot.
