Recently my PC has been crashing almost every day with the same issue I have not been able to find out what is wrong. I used bluescreenview and it said that halmacpi.dll and possibly ntkrnlpa.exe. While researching on the internet for the issue, I found out about Driver Verifier and I wanted to test every drive not made by Microsoft. The pc under Driver Verifier would uncommonly freeze for 10 seconds and unfreeze without any BSODs or such. This is the latest minidump file I have found for this issue in regular mode:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/wa9of9231giijcl/061020-14570-01.dmp?dl=0
I couldn't find any other way to share the file, so i used Dropbox. If there is any problems with downloading it I will try something else.
However, I was also experimenting with Driver Verifier by testing all drivers that are not made by microsoft, after some time i got a BSOD and the logs are as it shows:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/10sgeh4e4ymhgb8/061120-16068-01.dmp?dl=0
    My PC specs are:
    Windows 7 32-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon II X3 455 3.30 GHz
Ram: 4,00 GB (3,12 GB usable)
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. Model M4A87TD/USB3 (AM3)

Driver Verifier is designed to cause BSODs when it detects issues that compromise the safety or security of the OS. It should only be used on '3rd party' drivers, as the built-in MS Windows drivers almost never cause BSODs.

A 0x124 BSOD or halmacpi.dll being flagged are indicative of failing hardware, though rarely there may be a driver/filter implicated somewhere.

Under normal circumstances, 24-48 hours is all that DV should be used for, it causes a lot of stress and sometimes triggers random BSODs, not helpful (except that they usually confirm hardware issues).

Here it seems the AMD CPU is self-reporting an MCE (Machine Check Exception), specifically a failure to read the on-CPU cache memory.

It's possibly overheating or being fed a voltage that's out of range, but I really don't know what to suggest, other than to swap out components (CPU/PSU/'board). Lack of reasonable history prevents making more useful guesses.

By saying testing the drivers not made by microsoft I meant that they are the ones being stress tested (checked in the driver verifier), but it seems like I didn't need the driver verifier for this situation. I was also thinking that it could be overheating and it's probably that. Thanks for having a look into this and if you need any more info about this i'll try my best to be as informative about it. If nothing else can be done, then I will consider trying to do something about this. However, i'd like to ask you if toning down or just simply turning off the overclocking may fix the issue as this happens constantly.

Turn off DV for sure; if you've also been suspecting overheating (and it's coming up to peak heat in the Northern hemisphere), then do something to reduce the heat buildup, improve the cooling airflow; dust out the case internals, clean fans/filters.

Target a cooler running CPU that's easy to manually dial up when you need more work done, use Bios settings, Cool'n'Quiet, or w/e the AMD package is to push temps down. Just try not to use 3rd party tools/drivers (actually, reduce those you have now - less can be more, more cooling, more stability), simple, native Windows tools are good.

Since everything inside the computer case depends on good, clean, stable power, when dealing with unexplained hardware issues (especially unexpected freezes shutdowns, and reboots) I always start by swapping in a known good power supply to see if the problem continues, or goes away.

Where do I find these third-party drivers? I found some apps that can detect them but I can't seem to delete them or disable or such.

You've had this problem some time, had you stuck with this helper back in January, you'd have found the cause and most likely the resolution method within a day or two.

List of 3rd party drivers that were in use during the 2x crashes (+ some links to help you gain more info - generally, v. old + v. new drivers are suspect but check details as you might have installed driver(s) with BSOD histories, eg* ):

Thanks for all the info and help but how do I delete/disable those drivers? Do I have to do it by myself in the system32/drivers folder?

  9. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Don't disable or delete anything! Investigate and then uninstall or upgrade the 3rd party driver packages.

  10. lazacat

    lazacat Private E-2

So you mean that I find out what program is causing this and possibly try to fix it?

  11. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

We both think heat/overclocking might be part of, or the main reason, for these crashes (now that you've disabled DV). 'bad' drivers can also play a part in triggering crashes that sometimes leave trails that look like hardware failure.

If you have installed 'stuff'' that you don't need, uninstall it, esp. if it includes anything that loads automatically, like drivers.

When/if you get another crash, upload the data.

  12. lazacat

    lazacat Private E-2

I will inform you on the results after I uninstall the programs I don't need and possibly a new crash.

  13. lazacat

    lazacat Private E-2

However, this mostly seems to happen when I play a cpu-intensive game, so i'm not sure if theres any other way I can make my system crash by itself and it might take some time.

  14. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

They're listed above (though some of those might be Windows drivers that were installed as part of upgrades or updates), but often a specific driver will be used by two or more driver packages, then you need to cross-reference the data on your drive (Add/Remove Programs etc.) with the possible 'brands' or specific software types (any 'VirtualPN' for example - emulating real hardware) to see what you have installed and loaded.

Then look for updates for them, check they have uninstallers and figure out if you really need them.

If you can't make it crash 'by itself', load up a game.

One issue I have right now is that LogMeIn Hamachi that when I deleted it the driver is still there and in the system32/drivers folder it is a hidden program. Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but I don't know how do I get rid of it in a safe way that won't affect my system.

  16. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Reinstall it and uninstall it instead of 'deleting'?

Is the driver actually loading still? Use DriverView to find out.

  17. lazacat

By delete I meant uninstall, sorry for misunderstanding.

  18. lazacat

    lazacat Private E-2

I have sucessfully deleted the hamachi driver, and I uninstalled all the programs that I didn't need. Am I supposted to see if there's any updates for the drivers that were used during the crash, or try to crash my PC playing a game?

Almost identical crash data. Did you run any hardware checks on temps/voltages? Have you cleaned out the PC and checked all the fans are in working order? Can you hear the fans startup and can you hear them change pitch?

No, I didn't run any checks on the temp/voltage, could you give me some info about how to do it? If not, i'll try to find online. I didn't clean my pc, last time I opened it was a year ago when I had to replace it with a new motherboard because the old one 'died'. During the playing of the game, I could hear the fans get louder and louder until the PC crashed when it went more to normal.

Perhaps you need to Stop logging before a file is made? You already had it installed, learn about how the software and its logging feature works.

You have to ensure your hardware is sufficiently cooled, set to default speeds/voltages and carefully cleaned, with fans/heatsinks working efficiently.

Get a baseline (~20 minutes post-boot with no manual input - boot and rest - log stats.) to begin with. Then collect stats eg. every 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 minutes after the game is started?

Use the tools you were born with: eyes, ears, nose, touch/temperature-sensitivity etc., get a feel for your tools, escape to your local woods overnight...

Hey satrow, sorry for not responding a long time, I was dealing with these issues for a long time until I actually realized what's wrong after getting new parts for my computer.
The GPU was at 105 temp and the ventilators didn't work, so I cleaned the graphics card and now the PC works fine.

Well, overheating has been suggested as one of the possibilities from the first response, given the likely age of the PC, I should have pressed harder for an inspection.

Glad you kept going, sorted it and provided feedback, hopefully we'll all learn something from it.

    Have fun ^^
