    Greetings all...

Been doing a lot of digging around the web to try and figure out an issue ive been having.

I have Revit 2009 installed on my home computer: Pentium 4 3.2, 2.5gigs PC3200 ram, NVIDIA Geforce 6200 (512 megs/AGP 8X), Windows XP Home Edition SP3. It's a Dell of which the RAM has been upgraded (2x1gig chips added) and a new video card (previous one was a Radeon 9800). SATA HDD, also, if thats relevant at all. I understand the hardware is a bit dated for use but I am only using it to learn and do exercises with it.

What happens: Revit is able to start up but 98% of the time I try and start a new project or open a new one, it crashes w/ a Blue Screen error. It seems to load all the way but right as it displays the model, I get this:

    STOP 0x00000050 win32k.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    0X946A6407 0X00000001 0XBF8019CA 0X00000000

    address BF8019CA base at BF800000 datestamp 49900FC9

Basically I am trying to discern if this is due to the hardware not being able to handle Revit or if this is actually a problem that can be remedied. I've already put 10 hours into trying to find people with similar issues on the web and I've seen so many different responses and solutions offered of which many I have tried, including:

    - Taking out some of the ram to verify if any of the chips are a problem

    - uninstalling & reinstalling both AutoCAD and Revit (i had noticed someone elsewhere facing similar issues resolved it by just reformatting their hard drive and reinstalling, clearing the issues all together http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=8591 I'd rather avoid this path unless it was absolutely necessary). Registry values seemed to remain ,however, since the re-installation did not require any authentication.

    - updating my graphic card drivers and also updating Revit to Web Update 3

    - installing the "Open Save Close" hotfix (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...linkID=9240658) which at first seemed to resolve it in that I was able to start a new project and open an existing one. But after a reboot, Revit returned to its original behavior.

    - increasing the min and max page file size to 4095 MB , no effect

    - switching to 3GB mode (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...linkID=9243142) which had no effect

Following the suggestion of someone else on another board, I ran some tests on my system to verify its stability. Used Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/) and OCCT (http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download), which tested my CPU & GPU processor. All tests showed as normal. The GPU Memtest I was not able to run due to what appears to be lack of support for NVIDIA cards. Anyone have any suggestions for an alternative that I could use to test my card's integrity?

Also, OCCT required me to update my DirectX 9.0c to the latest version to test the GPU processor (went from March 08 to Nov 08). To verify if this would affect my errors, I ran revit again. This time, the error showed as a 0x0000008E win32k.sys error, which from what I've been reading is due to graph card drivers / bios needing updating? (http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x8e).

BIOS I am unable to update beyond what Dell offers (the latest BIOS update Dell has available was from 04, version 10 A06) Verified that it is a Phoenix BIOS on my board and after visiting Phoenix's site, it directly links to Bios Agent Plus's "free" BIOS scan utility. After scanning the computer, it shows that the BIOS is out of date. However to update it, you have to fork out $30 for it to patch everything it finds.... great customer service. I've been unable to find anywhere else on the web that hosts an update.

Sorry to bring this upon you. I'd really appreciate if someone could at least point me in the right direction. I've already spent many hours this week trying to solve this on my own and am at a loss for a solution besides upgrading my system totally and seeing if it makes a difference. Appreciate the help very much & hope someone can get me out of this hell. Is this a computer that just can't hack it or my hardware (graph card I'm thinking specifically) not work well with revit? Or is there just a simple fix I've not managed to discover? Thanks so much in advance.

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

0x0000008E is error for hardware, but mostly it's about memory.SO,take out all of the memory leave only one stick and run memtest 86:http://www.majorgeeks.com/Memtest86_d1247.html .If it's ok pull out the good one and plug in another ram stick.RUn the memtest ....
Post back what you have done.Good luck!!!

    Delayed response but...

I've ran memtests on the system and all the memory checked out.

Decided to just give up on trying to determine the issue considering I have easily put 40 hours into researching and attempting different fixes. Instead, I'm buying a new system this week so I'm totally not concerned anymore with this problem (it's been long overdue anyhow).

    Appreciate the reply, Goran.

The process name says Revit.exe which has to do with Autodesk.
Remove autodesk and maybe the BSODs will be a thing of the past.

Inside Flash Player there's also something called autodesk...

Autodesk is the company that owns Revit & sells it along with many other drafting/3d modelling applications, ie AutoCAD, 3D Studio & Maya. Thats the equivalent of saying "The process name says Word.exe which has to do with Microsoft. Remove Microsoft." if I was having blue screens whenever I opened Word. :( I believe you're thinking of some adware whose name is similar but I can't recall off the top of my head.

I was trying to get Revit to work on my system and had tried several approaches on doing so with no luck. Figured in the end the hardware just couldn't handle it (2009 program thats rendering intensive on a 2004 system) since all suggestions given indicated it was a memory issue. After testing the memory and seeing no problems with it functioning, figured it was nothing I could remedy without a hardware upgrade which should be arriving next week.
