BSOD when trying to load XP

I partitioned my new Asus X53E drive with 2 ntfs partitions, 1 120GB primary partition for the XP system that I want to install & 1 200GB primary partition for data. Then I loaded my XP sp3 install disk, but when it went to start windows, I got the BSOD with0x0000007B.
The box came with Win7 Home but I need XP for my legacy software. I know Win7 won't allow me to install XP, so I deleted all the original partitions from the drive before creating the 2 I want for my XP Pro install.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 mounted on the remainder of the drive.
Can anyone help me with this? :confused

During the install? Is the drive a SATA? You'll need drivers for the SATA controller.
Hit f6 (I think) during install to use the driver.

OK, I'll try that. Can I get the drivers from Asus? Since the box came with Win7 they probably don't have them.
Any thoughts on where I can find them?

    Save as Text file

    choose desktop as saving location

follow this process to post your machine type report

yeah, posting the Mobo info might help... it is an Asus, what? If you don't have an OS loaded Speccy is useless, if you don't have the box, check what the bootscreen says it is, or open the case an look for it stenciled on the MoBo, and please let us know.

OK, I'll open it up & get the MB model# & hopefully the chipset type. I have Ubuntu on the machine, but I'm having trouble connecting with my wireless & it's hasn't recognized my 10/100 port, so I guess I'm gonna have to open it up. I have the new box, but it doesn't have the MB specs.

I get HWINFO to load from UBCD just fine, but I can't figure out how to run it & retrieve the info for my system. The directory lists HWINFO EXE, but entering it just returns me to the prompt!

Can you get NSSI to work. I will boot mine up and see what the problem may be.

Unfortunately I have a version that does not include HWINFO but was able to pull my motherboard info using the other utilities. I will download the lastest version tomorrow and play around with it.

When you start UBCD and select HWinfo, do you get about 7 different memory options? I let UBCD select the first. You might want to try some of the other options. You should get the screenshot here when it loads.

Edit: you may want to try burning the iso at a slower speed.

Because you do not have a floppy drive, you will have to slipstream the SATA AHCI drivers into the XP install disk with Nlite. Nlite needs .Net framework 2 to run.

    Here is a guide:

    These
should be your drivers. 10.8_f6flpy-x86.zip for 32 bit. Unzip to a folder.

I read somewhere here in the forum about Linux conflicting with Windows but I don't remember which version of Linux it was. Also, there's an article from Microsoft on the Stop error.

I ran the utility, but everything is still the same in Device Manager after restart. The same yellow exclamations & the same hardware ID codes.

The Ethernet and Network chips are Atheros.

Ethernet Unzip to a folder on the desktop in and admin account. Then Right click the device, select properties and at the Driver tab, select update driver and point it to the l1c51x86.inf file in the unzipped folder.

    Network (Wireless)

I will search for the other drivers.

    Edit: Video Controller (VGA compatible)

For the audio devices, you should have XP updated to SP3

The Universal Serial Bus Controller, SM Bus Controller, and PCI Simple Communications Controller drivers for XP are going to be difficult to locate, especially since the chipset driver I linked to did not work.

In my post #24, you may have to update the chipset manually as explained in this readme file. See 9B. (Installing the Windows* XP INF Files After OS Installation) You can just unzip to a folder to the desktop or put the files on a CD if you wish.

But the file is an executable, I can't use these instructions in this instance.

I've got most of the devices working (I'm using the machine to post this), but I'm still missing drivers for these.

I understand how to install the driver manually, but I need to locate the driver to instal for these devices. The link that you gave me is for an executable that doesn't let me extract the actual driver file.
Does anyone have a link to the actual .inf files for these devices?
I can't thank you guys enough, for the fantastic help you've all been!

No, I don't have sound yet, one of the audio bus yellow exclamations is gone, but the other is still there. I'll try this one, when I get home tonight. Thanks again!

OK, everything works :-D, except the USB Controller. I think this is for the USB 3.0 that this machine's advertising sticker claims is 10X faster than USB2.0.

Here is the hardware ID for it:

    PCI\VEN_1B21&DEV_1042&SUBSYS_10591043&REV_00
    PCI\VEN_1B21&DEV_1042&SUBSYS_10591043

I will keep looking but that one is going to be hard to find as I could not even find the vendor ID at pcidatabase.com. Glad you got most everything working though. :)

Edit: if you plug in a flash drive, does it work at USB 2.0?

Edit: try this one. Click the little hard drive at the bottom of the page. Not the big download button.

I can use my flash drives just fine, but I don't know how to tell if they are using USB 1.0 or 2.0.

I'm going to try the new link right now.
