0x00000073 CONFIG_LIST_FAILED

I can't seem to find much info on this error. From what the PC owner told me, he was running a Spybot scan and "it found a bunch of stuff" and when the PC was rebooted, it dropped the BSOD bomb.... any info?

One of the top-level registry keys, also known as core system hives, cannot be linked in the registry tree.
After the Stop code will be 4 hex values: {Parameter 1, Parameter 2, Parameter 3, Parameter 4}.
Parameter 1 is set to 1.
Parameter 2 specifies the status code that led the Windows operating system to assume that it failed to load the hive.
A value 0xC000017D indicates there is insufficient disk space.
A value 0xC000009A indicates an attempt to allocate pool has failed.

Parameter 3 specifies the index of the hive in the hive list.
Parameter 4 specifies a pointer to a UNICODE_STRING structure that contains the file name of the hive.

So what are the parameter codes?
Maybe you can repair a hive? I don't run Spybot; does it offer a feature to save what it removes and allow you to rollback if something isn't working?

I also found this: The registry hive that cannot be linked might be SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, or DEFAULT.

I've never been a fan of Spybot or a user of it, so I have no idea what it's features are. But.... I got the PC booting to the desktop: I booted to an ERD2007 disc (it's a PE based bootable repair CD) and manually removed over 100 obvious malware files and ran a scan/repair of corrupt system files, there were TONS of corrupt files. One other neat thing that ERD can do is to rebuild hives based on info in system restore (I think) and it will do this automatically (if needed) upon booting to the CD. Too cool. Anyway- it's now at the desktop running an MBAM scan....

hmmm, I think I need to get me an ERD disk. I just started using XP so I have zero experience with registry hives. My hubby will start using XP when I pull his windows 2K computer off the internet. Since I'm tech support, I guess I'd better learn how to fix it when he starts asking for help.

Was this ERD Commander? now owned by Microsoft?

I have Winternals Disk Commander 1.1 on a Hiren's disk.
