    Brand spankin new Acer AX3400, 4G ram, AMD Phenom IIx4. 3 bsod's within the first week. can't wrap my xp brain around this new stuff. Never had a bsod in XP in 4 years. Reading posts but not understanding. Rather than blunder on, I am here. Each crash gave me a mini-dump that I can't open. No win zip on 7(?) . Cant find file C:\user\user...\Wer-6301-0.sysdata.xml.
    Event viewer is filled with hundreds of errors (?? I've had this thing for 6 days!) Seems to happen randomly - once on Skype, once playing a flash game. I will wait patiently for further instructions, but need to know if I need to return the unit within 30 days to B.B.
    Thanks in advance as always,
    Shelley:cry

    Hi

    Did the BSODs start straight away from when you first turned on the PC? or was this after you had installed some of your favorite applications/software?

    What security software is installed on this PC, please name all?

    Boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if the BSODs happen still?

    Mini-dumps cannot be opened by normal means, you can follow the advice HERE

    Windows 7 has the same Zip options as XP (right click send to Compressed Folder or on a Zipped folder as Right click Extract) , but it doesnt come with WinZip as that is a commercial applications

    Hey Shelley, could you copy the dumps to your Desktop and select them, right-click > Send to compressed folder (zip them) and attach the zip to your reply please?

    Wow guys - that was quick! Error when trying to send to zip from desktop "File not found or no read permission"
    Set up computer on Jan 5. Updated printer driver, Adobe flash, Skype. When updating logitech orbit cam it said failed, but the camera works and no problem shows in device mgnr. Have since added
    Avg 11 (scan on Jan 7 clean. 1,217,640 objects?!?)
    CC Cleaner (not used)
    Mbam
    Zone Alarm
    HJT
    CWShredder

    First crash Jan 8. 1033 3b. Was trying to play a game on skype. Updated driver for NVIDIA nforce 10/100/1000 mbps ethernet to ver 73.3.5.0

    Couldnt find any more drivers to update. (video card is integrated ATI Radeon 5570)
    2nd crash next day playing a flash game.
    3rd crash today playing flash game.
    Also transferred all old files with WD passport. Seemed to work fine.

    Will proceed with debugging instructions. I guess I could try safe mode and gamealot;) to see if it happens. thanks a ton

    The minidump files are best copy/pasted to the Desktop before compressing/zipping the copies.

    Hi

    I have to say that if you're having these issues out of the box, better to return/exchange it as I doubt things will improve with time. Likely the hard drive, RAM, or something else is faulty and you shouldn't settle for that.

    Satrow,
    I did copy/paste one dump file to the desktop, but it wont let me move to compressed folder.
    Also, the debugger is now saying I have no permission to open the dump files. help - Im the only user with full admin privledges. Help??

    #6 has a valid point.

    Check the properties on the minidump on the Desktop, make sure it's not just a shortcut and that you have permission (you should, if you've already copied it there).

    Hmm, just checked your security apps, ZA and AVG 2011 - they each have their own ... erm, foibles. Either of these could be affecting almost anything.

    If you have no success with the dump zipping, how about saving the System and Applications Event logs to the Desktop, as *.evt's, zipping them and uploading/attaching?

    Yes, Im afraid he might be right. How very disappointing.
    Ive used avg and zone alarm together for years. Is it a recent conflict? I think Im attaching a zipped event file.

    Sheesh, take hours to make a reasoned diagnosis of this ... feels like a bad install.

    Kernel power (crashes),
    CD-rom bad blocks;
    Network name clashes;
    Installer failures - permissions;
    3x BSODs - 0x03b =
    Failing to find files;
    Components not installed or corrupted;
    Search - access is denied;
    .NET runtime optimizer - version or flavor error;
    File/folder permission errors,

    That's just a brief sample of the errors, but they do 'feel' like they're in a weirdly logical 'order'. It doesn't feel like a bad PSU or RAM, it just isn't random enough for that.

    If the PC came with a recovery/install DVD, I think I'd give it a clean wipe/install. If the only way to make a DVD to recover/install was to create it with supplied software and data from the hard drive, I wouldn't bother, I'd be calling the supplier for a box that worked.

    ya, this sucks! So many errors that predate the purchase looks fishy. And in typical B.B. style, since it all came "pre-loaded" I only have 3 hand made discs that I can make no sense of - a lot of win.dat and .dat files I cant open.
    My son-in-law is a mini-majorgeek, so I will call him. He can at least get all my stuff back off this new comp. and then I will take him to Best Buy with me.
    I think they only loaded w7 , adobe, and a bunch of Acer junk. should I just ask for the tower and a new copy of Window 7?
    Thanks for all the quick replies. I will keep you posted until I get this solved.

    One last stupid thought. It came with a 23" monitor (sweet!) but I didnt install the software. It shows as a pnp monitor. Could that be anything?

    I wondered whether I should mention the odd dates ... I could see no proof of a previous owner but there's a later mention of Search being reset because it was full or something. Dates may just be explained by the time/date needing to be set on first boot - but that's rare, normally the Time Zone and a few hours each side is all that needs altering.

    I think you should ask for a full replacement, including a working method of reinstalling/recovering Windows. If you have 3 discs (DVDs?) now, it sounds like a full reinstall, Acer junk included. Try for a Windows 7 (64-bit if you don't have an old scanner/printer) disc, see what they offer.

    Good luck with it, Shelley :)

    Na, I don't usually bother loading monitor drivers for weeks, unless the screen is obviously wrongly sized or blurry.

    A friend just called me today. He bought an LCD to replace the old CRT he was using. It is plug and play in Win 7, which he runs. I told him to put the disk aside and don't bother installing. Most of the time it is more bloat that the computer does not need.

    Who hates "crapware"?

    Please raise your hand!

    LOL. Maybe the crapware culprit is Wild Tangent Games which came preloaded. Just now as I was trying to play every game, it froze on Zombies vs Aliens ( am I pathetic ?!? But no - it says its the game of the year.), and now task manager cannot end the app. It says running - not responding. when I click end task the window comes up " it may respond if you wait - do you want to end? Ive clicked yes a dozen times but nothing. It seems that the bsod's were all involving this game portal(?)
    Should I reboot? If yes, then I will remove all Wild tangent crap. And see...:confused Its so easy to forget how perfectly tweaked your old computer was. If it hadnt died, Id still be the XP master.

    The freezing may simply be symptomatic of something else.

    However, if you feel you will not use WildTangent, you could uninstall it. As I am not very familiar with WildTangent, I will still issue some caution. I remember many times getting calls from XP users who uninstalled Sonic, but just could not completely get rid of it. They (Sonic) eventually did make a patch to "solve" the issue of a popup window (very annoying) at every startup after uninstall. :banghead It kept asking for the software disc, so the software which a client was trying to get rid of, and did not want could be "installed". :mad

    All the "fix" did, was allow the popup to "ghost" on the screen at startup. I recall going very deep into the bowels of XP, so as to get rid of it manually, to no avail. :kissmy

    Some "fix", eh?

    Make sure it will COMPLETELY go away, before you try to get rid of it.

    Honestly, if I were you, I'd "formally request" a crapware free PC from B.B. for your trouble. Confidentially, I can't count the times I have cleaned up after the "Geek Squad".

    I've been reading over your logs.

    Do you have a Western Digital external hard drive?

    Also, are you running McAfee? I noticed an issue with a Windows System file.

    I also see a graphics issue as well. Looking at what little I scanned in these logs, I'd have B.B. do a CLEAN install of Windows.

    No extras, no bull.

    Just my opinion, though...

    Not running Mcafee. If it was on here I deleted it. Yes, I used a Wd passport to transfer my pictures, email and music from my old machine.
    After 1 hour, the game has still not shut down. I will reboot now and see what is up tomorrow.Alot of the event dates occurred on Dec 24 and 26. None of that was me. Looking more and more that BB was havin a party on this machine. Now need to figure out how remove all my current stuff from this comp. Will do a complete re-format or erase and then return it. (sigh) Im gettin too old for this. Give me Windows 3.1 :)
    I will report back tomorrow

    Goodnight.

    Confidentially, I have six 5.25" floppies, that would suit your desire for Windows 3.1!

    What it honestly sounds like, is someone may have gotten this for Christmas, returned it, and you were next in line to receive it.

    However, I could be wrong...

    Hi,
    An update for those who hate to see threads left hanging...I've been on a Wild Tangent (so to speak), gaming like it's my job! Been to every game thru the acer portal, skyping, opening 10 different windows, downloading from Bigfish, leaving everything running overnight......and NADA. :confused If anything - Im impressed with the speed of things. Maybe you telepathicaly fixed something. I dont think I did anything but send the event file. My son-in-law is coming tomorrow to see if he can do a clean re-install from the disks they gave me. So I guess those of you with similar problems should pray to the Major Geeks Gods, and poof... Dunno.
    Shelley
    p.s. thanks sooo much for fixing this!;)
