eVGA X58 3X SLI mobo, BIOS voltage is 3.17V. OK, so I get a BSOD for whatever reason as it doesn't matter except that my BSOD's are caused by OC'ing in Windows, as the following happens every time. I power off the rig, wait for the mobo light to die, reset the BIOS and then have to power cycle the PSU up to 6 times until I can get it to post and then I get the checksum error F1 to load defaults or DEL to enter CMOS.

This has been happening since day one and I've finally gotten sick of this game. Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

I don't have an exact solution to your problem, but I was having a similar issue with my x38 mobo. Luckily it had a feature called dual bios or something. basically it always kept a hard copy of the bios on a rom chip, and if it ever detected any problems, it would automatically revert back to it. I've found that it would kick in when I was trying to use the latest bios revision (which was labeled as beta by the manufacturer) and if there was ever a reason that the computer shutdown improperly.

so in the end, i finally went back to the last full bios release, and haven't had an issue since.

How are you powering off? When resetting the BIOS you MUST remove power completely, not just with the front panel power button. You should be setting the master power switch on the back of the PSU (if your PSU has one) to off, or better yet, unplug from the wall.

Then note it is normal to get a checksum error after a reset. This is because the next time you boot, your BIOS is detecting your drives, RAM and CPU and that information does NOT match what the now reset BIOS has stored in memory. So whenever you reset the BIOS you should immediately boot into the BIOS Setup Menu, check/set date and time, ensure your drives are detected, then, this is the important part, "Save and Exit". If you don't save, you will get a checksum error again.

If your settings are not saving, then replace the battery and try again.

You should not be overclocking either - not until this is resolved.
Hmm, this might be where I was going wrong as I'd be punching in a previously set profile or changing voltages and speeds.
Well, after I started this thread, I went and OC'd this puppy pretty far avoiding BSOD's by entering the Windows values into BIOS (as I've done this quite often:-o), going back into Windows and pushing the OC again etc. Got it up to 3.9GHz in under an hour and 36hr. stable so far!:celebrate:dancer

I hear you DLS but I believe it was due to PEBKAC.:-o There is a lot to OC'ing that I'll never grasp as I don't need that last MHz to put me over the top, I just want a fast enough and stable platform to fold on.

@TSG Ya, my ASUS-P5Q Pro has the dual BIOS and I love it.

    Thanks guys!:)
