"Bug" in XP Search ??

Try this.

Create a Folder named 20,000 Leagues under the Sea
(after the classic Kirk Douglas / James Mason movie). I did when ripping a DVD.
Make sure that you Include the comma, in 20,000

Do a search (Start--->Search) for "20,000".
No quotes, of course.
Make sure that you Include the comma, in 20,000

Look at the results, lots of incorrect results.
Everything with 20 or 000 appears, including our target, eventually.

Search for 20*000 (asterisk in 3rd position) and Search hits the correct result immediately.

Lesson to be learned from this.

DO NOT create any folder witha comma (,) in the name. Bazza

 

If you know to use the * instead of the , during the search then just use the * and create all the folders you want with ,s BAZZA

 

Yes true, but lots of noobs don't know about wildcard searches, using *.

The point is Search doesn't work using a comma, while searching for a File with a comma in it.
It should work, IMHO. You shoudn't have to use a wildcard. IMHO. Bazza

If you have any punctuation marks or any so-called "illegal characters" in your filenames, then use the quotation marks in your searches. You'll be amazed.

I searched on "20,000" with quotes and comma, and failed to find anything. Bazza

If you use quotes, you have to quote the entire string. As in - "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Even so, using quotes still has it's uses; files that are swapped between different operating systems sometimes have embedded control/escape characters. With the quotes, the entire string will transfer, thus not enabling the escape sequences.
