This build has the power to run most modern day games on resolutions up to 1920x1200 with every setting high without any problems. You can read an informative review of the graphics card at http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-4890-review-test/1
The 4GB Corsair RAM is more than enough for anyone's needs, you sohuld be able to multi-task without any slow downs and also run software in the background ;)
The CPU is the top of the rangr AMD 955 BE 3.2 GHz, this will do any task at the highest speed possible, quadcore is a big advantage as overall speeds are much faster meaning less waiting time on whatever your doing. You can see the differences at http://www.cpu3d.com/article/4210-1/dual-core-vs-quad-core-which-is-better/introduction.html.

Extra Notes: You could save money if you already have an operating system, hard drive(s) etc. Also if your into your movies then this LG Blu-Ray & HD DVD Drive might be worth the buy http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136317. If anyone needs extra help send me a pm ;)

Actually Dacads, I think that's a pretty good idea. One things for sure, you've put a lot of work into your idea so far. It would be a handy guide to go by for someone wanting to build a new machine, or a first time builder. However, one question, as technology changes would you update the guide to reflect it?

Yep I would update regularly as required;)

Any suggestions on Mini ITX builds? I'm about to build one using a zotac geforce 9300 wifi mobo with Intel Core 2 Duo E7600, S775, Wolfdale, 3.06 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB Cache, 11.5x Ratio, 65W CPU.
But i'm unsure whether theyr a good combo (as this will be my first build). Can you recommend any good slim CD/DVD drives? Thats one thing i'm unsure about due to lack of space, am i limited to what hdd and optical drives i can use?
    Thanks in advance :)

You'll have to use standard size optical and HDD's and anything else won't fit properly;)
Go with a higher spec CPU, preferably this E8400.
