Building a Computer

About 2 1/2 years ago, I built a computer from scratch. I sourced most of my parts from two online stores -- CDW and Monarch Computer. Monarch provided most of the significant hardware, particularly the Tyan motherboard. I now understand that Monarch has gone out of business and would like to know if anyone out there has some good experience with some online suppliers so that I do not have to restart my research from scratch. My current system is somewhat on the high end -- Tyan motherboard, Adaptec SCSI Raid controller, ATI video card, etc. Am just starting to consider building another one and would like to benefit from any more recent advice or experience others might have.

    Thanks in advance ...

Most will agree here, they are one of the best.

CDW used to be a huge ripoff, I wonder if its still the case?

While I am likely to build again, would anyone have a recommendation for a company who builds "customized" desktops? I know there were some in the past, e.g. Monarch Computer was one who built computers and sold parts. It's been a while so I don't know who, if any, are the good ones that can be trusted. Thanks again ...

You seem to be still undecided on whether to do a full build yourself or buy "customized" build from someone. You might consider a middle-of-the-road option and get a "barebones" unit. These are partially built units and then you buy the remaining components and install them. And, you'll find some variations in what's included in the barebones unit.

Take a look at them or newegg.com or tigerdirect.com, or whatever source you decide to use. I agree with previous favorable comments on newegg.com and tigerdirect.com.

Excellent suggestion ... Have heard about newegg before when I did my original build and they were highly regarded at that time. Thanks for the input ...
