Building a Computer

    Hello all,

First time building. I'm computer savvy but it's been a while since I've kept up on processors and...graphic adapters (what a nightmare), thus I'm freshing up on those two. So here's my issue.

I want to build a system. I'm not a gamer, but I like playing here and there, so I want a graphics card that will not only allow me to play most any game I want (and won't go obsolete for my purposes in, say, two years) and will not break the bank ($100-$130 is about it).

After researching Nvidia and AMD (wow, where have I been? They bought ATI? Crazy!), it's a total nightmare trying to decide what to go with. There's always one other card that's $10.00 cheaper or a tad faster or this, that and the other. I've checked with Tom's Hardware, and if worse comes to shove, I might go with his suggestions for a card in my price range.

    Any suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Starkman

    Hi Starkman

without wanting to put you off it is far more cost effective to buy a pre built system unless you are building a high end gaming machine. much more bang for yor buck

Thanks, but I just want the enjoyment of putting a system together myself.

Fair play. This may not be ideal but the Intel i-series chips have a built in HD GPU which probably wont game at high detail but you may want to consider using this in the interim and save up for a new, better GPU in 12 months or so. Unfortunately Im not an expert on GPUs and there are others better placed than me to comment.

MY Question----> here is what kinda MOB do you have or plan on using.

    Thanks, Tueur.

Goldenskull, I just went with an i3 3220, and the MOBO I'm getting is an Asus P8z77-V LE. It has everything I need and then some, and after hours and hours of research, I'm very happy with the reviews. I also picked up an EVGA GTX 650...yeah, not top of the line but perfect for my needs.

I'll be able to run Win7 without any problems, play games (on low-mid settings) when I get around to it, and anything else for a long time. I can always upgrade the processor and graphics board with the motherboard I have, so I'm pretty good to go.

    Now onto Cases!

    Thanks,

Evga is good I have a 550Ti Super clocked bye the factory so you should not have any issues playing any games i can play GTA 4 on all high mode so that should tell you that these are good cards.
