Hey I want to build a new gaming computer.. But i really have no clue whats the good stuff thats out right now.. My goal is to make a computer as cheap as possible and still be able to run the new game cyrsis with good graphics.

if any one has some sites that sell comp parts really cheap or have any ideas on what motherboard, video card, processor i should get.. please let me know

    thank you! so much!

I would look for a barebones system. For gaming, everything needs to be top end. The sad reality is that a prebuilt high end rig can run 5-6,000 and very few have one.

That said, you can build a good rig for gaming, but make sure you cover a few important areas:

At this time, Intel and Nvidia rule the cpu and chip market.

    - Dual core processor is the best bang for the buck right now.
    - Video I would buy a 8800GT OC from BFG. It runs about 250 bucks, but well worth it.
    - Audio, I would get a Creative X-FI
    - Memory 2 gigs
    - Operating system, XP, Vista is too slow, and I would suggest 3 gigs of ram for intense games if you use Vista.

Try http://www.newegg.com for a barebones system. This way, it comes 3\4 built for you, just add in what you need.

hi, first of all i agree with major attitude on the vista front, stay well clear until they have sorte all the problems out!

I built my own PC too,for gaming only and went for the quad core q6600 which im pretty pleased with, and they are going really cheap at the moment, but if you wanted dual core then the best bet is the intel e6600/7700 as they are relatively cheap but have great performance output.but dont expect a great longevity on them, as the quad core extremes are the main ones to buy at the moment. good luck with your build!

Try to avoid buying a case with a PSU. Just a tip, or if you do (Because you really like the case) then buy a seperate PSU. PSU's that come with a case have a tendency to not last long, or not be very effiecient. However this is not always the case, i know of a computer that has been build, over 5 years old (with upgrades of course) and i was playing fear on it just a moment ago and it has the old PSU that came with the case, i'm just lucky.

Second tip, enjoy the game, have the demo installed fooled around with it a bit and it seems to be really good.

Um, this motherboard seems to be good.
MOTHERBOARD: ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Nearly positive its compatible with your processor and seems to have excellent reviews.I'm not completely sure that its compatible with your memory. However I think it is. If someone else could confirm that I would suggest that board.

Actually, after looking further, i'm pretty sure that mobo isn't compatible. Sorry bout that, will keep looking.

the striker is a great board, tons of BIOS options and great performance. just keep in mind here, if you buy it "open box" then you dont get any cables or manuals or cds or anything, just the motherboard. they are really expensive brand new though, and i dont think it would be a good budget choice for this setup you have. Pretty much any ASUS board is great, and EVGA and XFX make good motherboards too

ok lets see what else I can add here:

    1) the memory standard for that motherboard is DDR2 1066 (pc2 8500), while the memory you have picked out for your build is pc2 5300. It will work just fine but that memory is much slower than what this motherboard can handle.

this Crucial memory would be great for your rig, i personally use Crucial: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148069

This Kingston would be a better deal though if you get it with the rebate (only $95 after rabate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134218

    2) A good PSU wont be what you may consider to be "cheap." In order to run a gaming PC you will need a pretty hefty PSU which should run ~$120

this one would be great, especially if you can pick it up before the rebate (gotta love all these rebates haha): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

    3) Do you think that you are ever going to want to run SLI? (2 video cards if you didnt know) In your case it would mean adding another 8800GT. If this is the case, you'll want to get a motherboard that supports SLI, check out the motherboards with the nForce 680i chipset (Asus, eVGA, XFX)

    4) that hard drive isnt bad by any means, but if it were me Id look into one with a 16mb cache as opposed to 8mb or less. Seagate makes great hard drives, and this one here is very popular: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148140

Dont hesitate to ask anymore questions if you have any! good luck and have fun (and dont apologize for "sucking" with computers, we were all there at one point lol)

most CPUs come with the thermal paste, but yeah, i would recommend getting a tube of AS5 to use instead.
