Building a PC, a few recommendations wanted.

I am trying to figure out what components to buy to build my new computer. I have previous experience building computers, but I am not so familiar with all the new technologies such as SATA I & II. So far I have compiled a list of ideas, and I was hoping to get some feedback from people who know more than I do.

MB

• DFI LanParty UT RDX200 Cross-Fire
• DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert
• ASUS A8R-MVP ATX AMD CrossFire
• MSI K8N Diamond Plus

Processor

• Athlon 64 X2 4600
• Athlon 64 X2 4400
• Athlon 64 X2 4200
• Athlon 64 4000

Video card - may keep my existing video card if it is compatible with the MB I decide to buy....if not, I will more than likely buy a mid-level model as I do not play games or anything like that.

Sound Card - I will keep my Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro

Hard Drives - a few questions here. I have read that SATA is much faster than EIDE. I currently have 1/2 TB of storage but all three of my drives are EIDE. I found the WD Caviar SE16 & Caviar RE2, but cannot tell what the difference is in them. I know they are both SATA150, but is that SATA I or SATA II?

Most of the other pieces will be taken from my existing computer. If anyone has any recommendations, thoughts, ideas....anything at all....I would greatly appreciate it.

 

Only a little advice, I too am not up to date with most of the new tech just yet. If you don't play games, there is no reason to get the athlon 64 4000, which is a good choice for gamers as most games don't benefit from having a dual core/dual processor machine. In windows applications and image manipulation/ video encoding etc. the X2 would be the processor of choice, they multitask very well I hear.
