    Hi xsloth; and welcome!

Remember your DVDRW has CDRW capabilities.

Maybe consider a small drive for your WXP so it performs good all the time. Other then that sounds like a sweet setup; about the video card; in less then a few weeks we might see price drops because of nvidias 6800/6800U

Anywho im sure by summers end for 1700$ you can get a better pc then what you have planned out now.

Yup, nice setup. Simillar to what I was gonna get. You sure you wouldn't wrather wait on the 939 Amd's and the new video card platforms?

If you do decide to get that (I dont know if you plan on OC'n or not) you should look at the Zalman CNPS7000Cu heatsink and fan or a Thermalright heatsink and Panaflow fan.

O ya, you can get a Saphire 9800pro and flash it to 9800xt specs and save some cash. :)

Errr, dont get ECC RAM for your rig. And get ram with faster (lower number) timings, ie, 2-2-2 instead of 3-3-3

Changes look good. The Athlon 939 socket is a new Cpu type they have coming out. The 939's will take over for the current 64 bit models. With the 939's you can use non-ecc memory and also use it in dual chanell. I think the 939 pin is supposed to be out some time this summer.

You should check out these forums: ocforums.com They have a ton of ppl on there that can help your flash the 9800 pro. I've never done it before so I dont know how.

u think its smart to get da athlon 64 even though there is a new one coming out. will there be sufficient software that uses da 64 bit technology?

well theres just about nothing that uses 64bit computing; end of the year we "hopefully" will see WXP 64bit released (at least as Release Candidate). Personally since you cant use dual chan and need registered memory the 64's are a bit of a waist right now if you want seriously mean performance.

I would search reviews for that mobo (google it); in my expeirance with Asus i had a really bad one...My computer didnt want to reboot or shutdown and i just had general problems with it....But im not saying theyre a bad company. Right now im running 3 pcs with Gigabyte mobos and theyre very stable and have nice features like updating BIOS through Windows (since it has 2 of them)

Read a review of the mobo; it was released Dec 2002 ; i would check Asus's website for more current boards; im sure that it will be hard to find the Newest revision of this board since there were already 3 of em floating around in Dec 2k2. Not just that but you will defently need bios and driver updates to get that board up to speed. I might be wrong my knowledge of Asus went down south since the mobo incident consipracy :D

so do u recomend gigabyte over asus. i was originally lookin at gigabyte but decided against it due to price and the fact that the specs were so similar to tha asus.

I have recommended Gigabyte over Asus just for that really bad problem i had with the Asus mobo; of course since i had that problem with Asus i am biast to reccomending mobos. Hope this helps :D
