    Hello all,

This is my first post on your much esteemed forum. After consulting with a knowledgeable friend, he suggested I put my proposed list of new PC specifications up to you guys, so that I might sip from the pool of your collective knowledge. I'd be most grateful to know if the system I propose will all fit inside the case, whether you think it has adequate cooling, and whether the video card will work out okay. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the video card; whether you think I should wait for the GTX480/470 or just buy the ATI. I'm of two minds and just can't decide.

Great setup you are looking at there!

Yes, it should fit inside the case with no problems, if i was you, i would get the i7 920 instead of the 930 and spend the extra couple of $ on a water cooling system, or maybe even just a Corsair H-50, To allow for an awesome OC.

I would get some more fans, the CPU and GPU you have selected will produce an awesome amount of heat. Is the Blu-ray drive necessary? Do you have a HD monitor? as there are no references to a monitor in your post.

I would change the PSU, go for a Corsair PSU, like the TX and HX 750 or HX 850, as the brand of psu you chose isn't the best, and you want rock solid stability for your setup.

If you want that extra speed during boot and shutdown, then get an SSD drive, for OS but they come at a huge cost.

Other than that, everything looks good!

    Hi Burrell,

Thanks for your reply. Do you think the H-50 water cooling for the CPU will be all I will need in terms of additional cooling? I threw a case fan in, but I don't expect it to be all that effective at combating the heat from the GPU as well.

The monitor I picked is the Benq G2420HD, so Blu-Ray would definitely be used. I'm just wondering whether it's necessary to get a writer or not - I can't remember the last time I burned a DVD - perhaps a player would be a cheaper idea.

I'll change the PSU in line with your suggestion to the Corsair - I just picked the CoolerMaster because it was the same brand as the case, so I thought the fittings would all be more snug. But by all means, thank you. I'd much rather have the best, than the best fit.

I considered the SSD but alas, they are quite expensive here in Aus at the moment. Maybe next time. :)

Do you have any thoughts/opinions about GPU? I can't decide nVIDIA or ATI.

Yes, the H-50 is a great option for CPU cooling, I would get the push/pull setup as I have found and heard from others that it reall helps with temps.

Yep, save the cash and just get a reader, I doubt you would ever want to burn a blu-ray DVD.

About choosing the psu that sounds like it will fit, that's not the best idea, all atx cases will fit all atx psu's. The Corsair brand Is not notch and you won't be dissapointed, BTW what wattage are you looking at?

Yes unfortunatly the price of SSD's is just monumental! You can always upgrade later when the prices fall.

About the gpu, I would stick with the 5870, unless you are going to be folding, (which I would suggest you do with such an awesome machine! If you don't know what folding is, check out the forum section dedicated to it) I would g
be tempted to get an Nvidia gtx200 card, the 295 I that's affordable, if not, the the 280 is still a great card! Don't worry about them not having dx11 as this still a while away before games start really requiring dx11.

Hope I havnt missed anything out there.
