I recently acquired a refurbished HP Elitebook 8460p off of EBay. It is running Windows 7 Professional SP1, 64 Bit. You can see the camera at the top of the monitor, but I cannot find anything on it in Device Manager. I wanted to Skype someone but Skype could not find my camera either. Wondering what steps I can take to see if the camera is not properly installed? Loose? I am A+ certified but have never taken apart the monitor part of a laptop. I am wondering if there is something loose on the motherboard. IDK Any help, tips would be appreciated.

    thanks!

I would also suggest running a good Driver Updater on that system - Iobit Driver Booster free version works well.
The webcam drivers might have been corrupted prior to you buying it.

Tim, I tried your suggestion, nothing.
Max, I downloaded the driver booster and updated only for the webcam. Nothing.

Here is a video showing removing screen- the webcam cable goes up to top middle, obviously- check if it is not plugged in securely

There appears to be a bios setting , check that -

Here it says--boot the unit to BIOS. To boot to BIOS, restart the unit and keep tapping F10. Once you are in BIOS, go to system configuration > Built in Device options > Enable Integrated Camera by check mark in the box > save the changes and exit.
Other than that, you may need to open up the base to check that the lead is connected on the motherboard.

If the webcam wasn't working when you first bought it (and naturally you should have checked it worked fully on receipt) then just get your money back from eBay. If it was sold with a non-working webcam that should have been in the advert.

Yup, if checking the bios does not give satisfaction, then you should do as Max stated and send it back!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I bought this back in March and checked out everything on the laptop except the webcam, so I have contacted the Seller. Lesson learned the hard way. My Bad! In the meantime, I am going to check the physical connection per the video above. I did check the BIOS and I did not find anything in there pertaining to the webcam. Oh well.
